Transportation Coordinator – Rancho Cucamonga, CA We are seeking an energetic, customer focused Transportation Coordinator to join our team out in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Be the liaison between AMR Communication Center and our customers, building trusting relationships and ensuring seamless patient movement that is safe, timely, and appropriate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Help hospital staff determine Level of Service (LOS) to clarify why a patient is moved at a particular LOS. Ensure all required paperwork is filled, received, and correct; verify that the sending facility has completed its portion and that the Communications Center has the necessary documents (e.g., Physician Certification Statement, Certificate of Medical Necessity, insurance authorizations, etc.) before transport. Make telephone contact with insurance carriers to request authorizations or correct received authorizations when appropriate. Maintain detailed knowledge of insurance requirements for non‑emergency ambulance transportation reimbursement. Provide information about transportation services to physicians, nursing personnel, and other health‑care facilities in the contracted service area. Review non‑emergency transports scheduled for the previous day, same day, or next day, ensuring all paperwork has been received and is forwarded to pre‑billers. Act as a backup call taker during high call volume periods to keep customers from being placed in a call queue, while remaining within the Communications Center role. Take calls from customers that require in‑depth explanations of services, insurance requirements, or booking of repetitive patients, freeing call takers to handle Emergency Medical Dispatch incidents. Manage all incoming faxes to the Communications Center and route them to the appropriate party or department. Provide training and education to new‑hire dispatchers on proper documentation and common documents so they can perform those roles during shifts with no Transport Coordinator on duty. Assist callers who pay privately (credit/debit card) when insurance will not cover services; generate price quotes based on rates set by our local EMS agency and give step‑by‑step instructions for accessing the AMR payment system. Coordinate with Operations Supervisors for on‑site evaluations of repetitive patients, review documentation, and pair it with the repetitive patient PCS form before forwarding to the AMR Repetitive Patient Transport team for final approval; also coordinate for patients with highly specialized equipment or care needs. Minimum Qualifications Strong customer service background. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Related experience providing dispatching and/or transportation services to hospital patients. Experience working for a medical insurance carrier, especially with ambulance transportation reimbursement. EMS industry experience. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Medical coding or medical billing experience. Background in medical terminology, including definitions and proper spelling. Why Choose AMR? AMR is one of Global Medical Response’s (GMR) family of solutions. Our GMR teams deliver compassionate, quality medical care, primarily in the areas of emergency and patient relocation services. GMR’s Core Behaviors Keep care at the center, raise your hand, seek to understand, find a way together, and be accountable—unite our teams and set us apart in emergency medical services.
