Part-Time Outreach Coordinator, Beacon Community Centers

Who We Are:  CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 160 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 65,000 individuals and families each year at our 90 locations, including 10,000 youth.  CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA operates four (4) DYCD-funded Beacon Community Centers located in New York City public schools. Beacon Centers are school-based community hubs that operate afterschool, evenings, weekends, school holidays, and summers, offering academic support, recreation, arts, sports, leadership development, and enrichment programming for elementary, middle school, and high school youth, along with adult and family programming, community events, and partner-led activities that make the school building a resource for the entire neighborhood. Beacon Centers are designed to be driven by community need, and are expected to demonstrate ongoing, documented outreach and engagement with residents, families, schools, community boards, elected officials, and community-based partners.

Position: PT Outreach Coordinator 

Reports To: Program Director 

Location: Assigned Beacon Community Center 

What Does a Outreach Coordinator Do:  

• Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures. 

• Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information. 

• Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident and incident reporting. 

• Develop and implement an annual outreach and recruitment plan for the Beacon Community Center, in coordination with the Program Director and site leadership. 

• Conduct ongoing outreach and recruitment for afterschool programming, the middle school cohort, high school activities, and adult and family programming to meet contracted enrollment and participation goals. 

• Serve as the public voice of the program by representing the Beacon Center at community board meetings, school events, parent association meetings, resource fairs, tenant and resident association meetings, and other community gatherings. 

• Build and maintain relationships with school administrators, teachers, parent coordinators, community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, elected officials, precinct and community board staff, and local businesses. 

• Conduct outreach to recruit partner organizations, instructors, and community groups to utilize Beacon space, and coordinate space-use requests with site leadership. 

• Design, produce, and distribute outreach materials, including flyers, calendars, program brochures, sign-up sheets, and event announcements, in the languages spoken by the community served. 

• Distribute and post materials through school backpack folders, bulletin boards, building lobbies, local businesses, community centers, houses of worship, and other high-traffic community locations. 

• Submit program announcements and event information to school newsletters, community newsletters, community board bulletins, partner mailing lists, and elected officials’ offices. 

• Maintain the program’s community-facing communications, including email and text blasts to families, and coordinate social media and web content with site leadership and CAMBA communications staff. 

• Plan and support outreach-related events, including open houses, kick-off events, registration and enrollment drives, community fairs, and family engagement events. 

• Maintain an Outreach Coordinator binder and corresponding electronic files documenting all outreach efforts, including copies of every flyer and mailing, distribution logs, sign-in sheets, photographs, event calendars, meeting attendance records, and partner correspondence. 

• Track and log all outreach activity, including dates, locations, method of outreach, target audience, number of people reached, and resulting enrollments, and ensure documentation is complete and site-visit ready at all times. 

• Prepare outreach summaries and supporting documentation for DYCD site visits, monitoring reviews, monthly reports, and program plan submissions. 

• Collect and organize community feedback, program interest surveys, and needs assessment information to inform program planning and Community Advisory Council discussions. 

• Coordinate outreach messaging and timing with site leadership so that recruitment aligns with program schedules, registration periods, and space availability. 

• Monitor the effectiveness of outreach strategies and recommend adjustments to increase enrollment, attendance, and community participation. 

• Ensure all outreach materials and public communications reflect CAMBA and DYCD branding, funder acknowledgment, and language access requirements. 

• Other duties as assigned. 

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:   

Applicants who are currently enrolled in an education program and are on track to complete the minimum required degree, and have the experience required within the next three months are encouraged to apply.  

• High School Diploma or GED. 

Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:   

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with young people. 

• Strong communication and organizational skills. 

• Comfort speaking publicly and presenting to groups of youth, parents, and community stakeholders. 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva or comparable design tools, and social media platforms. 

• Ability to represent the program professionally and persuasively to families, schools, partners, and community stakeholders. 

• Ability to create clear, engaging, and accurate outreach materials for a range of audiences. 

• Strong attention to detail in tracking, documenting, and filing outreach activity for funder review. 

• Ability to work independently in the community while maintaining regular communication with site leadership. 

• Ability to maintain professional relationships with clients and to maintain client confidentiality. 

• Commitment to positive youth development principles and community-driven programming. 

• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends, based on program and community event needs. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Experience working with middle school and high school students. 

• Experience in community outreach, recruitment, marketing, or community organizing. 

• Bilingual in a language spoken by the community served. 

Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:  

• If off-site or school-based, may require: Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; and New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Sex Offender Registry clearance. 

• If off-site or school-based, ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment. 

Compensation : $25.00 hourly
