Department: Anthropology Location: Belknap Campus Time Type: Full time Worker Type: Regular Job Req ID: R109191 Position Description The Department of Anthropology at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure-track open rank Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Archaeology to serve as Director of the Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage. The appointment will begin August 1, 2027. The Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage houses the archaeological collections and laboratories for archaeological analyses. The new Director will have a strong record of fostering community-engagement through archaeology and a desire to develop future archaeologists. We seek an archaeologist with administrative experience in collections, laboratory, and database management, Native American tribal consultation, organizing exhibitions, public outreach, education, and internship programs, building partnerships with community organizations, a successful record of grants and contracts, and a commitment to transdisciplinary projects and research. The Center presents an opportunity for someone to help grow a long-lasting institution to promote archaeology through research, education, outreach, and advocacy. This position will have a 50% administrative and 50% academic composition. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements department strengths, be prepared to teach courses in archaeology, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in departmental activities. Given the significant administrative component, the course load will be commensurate with workload allocation. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. by the time of appointment. The hire is contingent on the availability of funding. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2026.
