Police Captain

The Captain will assist the chief in day-to-day leadership of the police department. This position will assist in oversight of both the patrol and the administrative divisions of the department and will assume command of the department when the chief is absent. Responsibilities Assist Chief in providing day to day oversight of the police department Oversee the Clery Act Reporting Requirements, Statistics and Annual Security Reporting Assume command responsibility for the department in the Chief's absence Oversee recruiting, training, background investigations of new hires along with submitting appropriate documentation to NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Division Oversee the Video Surveillance system, working collaboratively with the IT department, to maintain the system, ensure its operability and assist with obtaining any video footage pertaining to open investigations Oversee the Informacast Mass Notification system to ensure its operability in the event of emergencies at Wake Tech and test system monthly Evaluate updates and new technology for the Informacast Mass Notification system utilized at Wake Tech Assist the chief with review of construction/blueprint layout so for new construction projects at Wake Tech Meet with all project managers to ensure uniformity of life safety requirements across all WTCC campuses to include video camera layout, door access and locking, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concepts Oversee and update policy and procedures with guidance from NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Ensure policies are updated in compliance with any new General Statutes or changes to the existing General Statutes of the State of NC Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Intermediate computer skills, particularly with Microsoft products Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a working knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling Ability to perform normal duties with minimal supervision Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree Must hold state certification and be a North Carolina sworn law enforcement officer Ten years of experience as a law enforcement officer with experience in both administration and patrol duties or field experience Experience supervising a large employee group of sworn and civilian personnel (over 25 individuals) Must possess a valid North Carolina license and have no record of arrest for major offenses, and no felony convictions Preferences Master’s Degree preferably in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or related field Working knowledge of higher education mass communication systems Working knowledge of video surveillance and recording devices Detective experience, family violence, youth services Experience working with juveniles or young adults Essential Personnel: Yes #J-18808-Ljbffr Wake Technical Community College
