Bus Driver

Must hold a valid CDL Drivers License or training will be provided. Must pass a DOT physical. Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting.

Nature and Scope: To provide safe, efficient transportation to ensure students have the means to get to and from school, also giving them the ability to take full advantage of all curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the school.

Requirements:

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid Colorado driver's license.
• Commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B P2S required
• DOT physicals for drivers
• Alcohol and Drug Test
• Evidence of Insurability
• Successful completion of District Driver Training Program.
• CPR and First Aid certification within three months after entering position.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
• Knowledge of town and county road networks.
• Knowledge of driving a bus and working parts of bus preferred at hire.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
• Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Knowledge of Colorado and Federal laws as they relate to the transportation of students.
• Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Essential Duties:

• Obtain and file with the Transportation Director a copy of, or certification of, all necessary school bus driver's requirements, including State of Colorado Driver's License, CDL license, First Aid Course, and comply with any other requirement of local, CDE, state or federal laws or regulations.
• Comply with all background check, fingerprinting, drug & alcohol testing requirements.
• Obtain an annual health certificate (district will reimburse cost).
• Take proper care of the vehicle and ensure that it is used for no other purpose than transporting students to and from school or for assigned purposes. Perform all required pre-and post-trip inspections daily.
• Take charge of the students during the time they are being conveyed.
• Remain on the bus at all times while students are passengers.
• Report misconduct of students via established and approved methods to Transportation Director and building principal.
• Complete and submit daily mileage report and any other reports required by the Transportation Director as directed.
• Attend scheduled transportation meetings, workshops and safety trainings throughout the year.
• Other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand, sit for long periods, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, twist, push and pull. Repetitive motion is often required in the performance of daily tasks.
