RN - L&D Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: Experience with EPIC Description:Responsible to the Unit Director for overall nursing practice.Includes the responsibility for assessment of childbearing individuals, neonates, and family needs.Development of a plan of care to meet those needs is essential.Implementation of nursing interventions is required.Evaluation of nursing care based on outcomes for the population served is necessary. Education:Completion of an accredited registered nurse program is required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patients and staff.Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.Job requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times.Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill individuals.Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Essential Functions:Assists individuals and infants to attain and maintain optimum health by:Assessing patient and family developmental levels, health statuses, and health histories, including sexual and reproductive histories and identified learning needs.Performing initial assessments and stabilization of neonates.Developing a plan of care based on identified physical and learning needs.Teaching self-care and/or care of newborns to patients and families. Assists families in achieving and maintaining a balance between the personal growth needs of individual family members and optimum family functioning by:Considering data relating to role relationships and interaction patterns of families when developing a plan of care.Promoting understanding of the influence of family relationships on health status. Identifies and intervenes with vulnerable patients and families at risk to prevent potential developmental and health problems by:Providing support and collaborating with other healthcare disciplines in the treatment and referrals of families at risk.Facilitating interaction between family members to promote the bonding process. Promotes an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth and development, wellness, and recovery from illness.Assists patients and families to understand and cope with health issues and childbirth.Accepts responsibility and accountability for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in the care of individuals and infants by:Maintaining awareness of professional issues.Updating knowledge and clinical skills on an ongoing basis.
