Inventory Control AssistantThe main objective of this position is to manage the spare parts inventory that supports the Maintenance and Operations departments. This includes receiving, putting away, picking, and delivering parts. This position will also ensure inventory levels are accurate and that spare parts are stored and handled properly. The ideal candidate is comfortable driving a forklift, driving a truck, working in a warehouse environment and using computers to enter data.ResponsibilitiesEnsures compliance with all security, safety and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times. This includes properly addressing issues through action or reporting issues and concerns to ManagerVerifies and keeps records on incoming shipments and deliveriesApplies knowledge of inventory system to complete basic tasks such as receiving, storing, picking, issuing, and cycle counting inventory itemsUnpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and contacts shipper to rectify damages and shortagesPuts away parts to designated location; picks parts and prepare for deliveryIssues parts to Maintenance and other departments using inventory systemDrives delivery vehicle to transport parts to terminal locations throughout Hampton Roads, including the loading and unloading of parts and materialsRecords and monitors all items with shelf-life daily and notify appropriate personnel when material has expiredPrepares monthly reports for cycle count and pick-lists count for monthly highlightsProvides customers with timely updates on the status of their orders, including backorders, delays, or fulfillment issuesWorks with other departments to ensure inventory needs are metOther duties as assignedThe Port of Virginia is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Ideal candidate demonstrates a high level of proficiency in performing job-specific tasks within inventory management systems. They possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel and Outlook. The ideal candidate is capable of operating a forklift and driving a truck to make deliveries in support of operational needs.
