Role Description

The Traffic Control CAD & Permitting Technician is a full-time role based in Austin, TX. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting basemaps and traffic control plans in AutoCAD, attending field meetings with clients, and checking field conditions ahead of plan design. The technician prepares, submits, and tracks permit applications through Austin's ROWMAN system, follows up on routine permit items, and keeps projects moving through city review. This role includes organizing and maintaining plan sets, project files, and documentation, as well as supporting scheduling and coordination across active projects — working closely with the lead consultant throughout.

Qualifications

• Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to catch what busy schedules miss.
• Comfortable with process-driven, detail-heavy work.
• Organized, dependable, and clear in written communication.
• Must be local to the Austin, TX area.
• Willingness to learn TMUTCD standards and Austin's ROWMAN system on the job.
• CAD coursework or a drafting certificate preferred.
• Prior admin, coordinator, or support experience in construction, engineering, or a permitting-heavy field is a plus.
• Experience designing and/or implementing temporary traffic control is a plus.
• Interest in growing into more advanced design work over time.

Pay

$25–$27/hour, negotiable based on experience. xhyhwjd After the introductory period, there's opportunity for growth and commission-based earnings as the role expands.
