Maintenance MechanicWestchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), a nonprofit founded in 1943, has grown to be the largest provider of licensed outpatient community mental health services and one of the largest human service agencies in Westchester County. We provide state-of-the-art programs and services and compassionate care to more than 20,000 people of all ages and backgrounds each year.The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of community residences in compliance with Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) regulations. This role helps ensure that residences remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.The salary for this full-time (40 hours per week) position is $56,160 ($27/hour).ResponsibilitiesAs a valued member of our team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs in accordance with regulatory requirements and agency standardsIdentify maintenance issues, troubleshoot problems, and determine appropriate repair solutionsComplete required maintenance documentation and compliance-related paperworkInspect buildings, equipment, and appliances to ensure safe and proper operationDiagnose appliance and equipment issues and coordinate or complete repairs promptlyReport unusual or urgent maintenance concerns to leadershipAdhere to OSHA standards and all agency safety policies and proceduresAssist with monthly residence inspections and support audits conducted by Fire Marshals and OPWDD surveyorsPerform basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, and electrical repairsEnsure the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and materialsRepair and maintain structures and fixtures including sinks, showers, cabinets, doors, walls, and building exteriorsRecognize major repair needs and communicate them to the Maintenance Supervisor and Senior Director of FacilitiesPurchase approved supplies and equipment as neededDrive agency vehicles as requiredMaintain clean, safe work areas and remove debris upon completion of projectsAssist with snow removal and salting of walkways during inclement weatherMaintain the cleanliness, inspection, and registration requirements of maintenance vehiclesSafeguard agency tools, equipment, and suppliesAssist with furniture replacement, removal, and donation coordinationRequirementsWe are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent requiredValid driver's license for a minimum of two years with an acceptable driving recordExperience with basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, and general home repairsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of proper use of maintenance materials, hand tools, and power toolsAbility to safely operate maintenance equipment and agency vehicles, including passenger vansAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamProfessional, reliable, and dependable work ethicStrong communication skills, both verbal and written, in EnglishAbility to exercise patience, flexibility, and sound judgmentAbility to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including kneeling, bending, climbing, and prolonged standing or sittingMechanical aptitude and commitment to workplace safety practicesEmployment is contingent upon meeting the requirements of the WJCS Driver and Vehicle Standards Policy.
