Berg Enterprises builds and services mechanical systems for federal facilities across the American Southwest — 200 miles past the last supply house, where it's 115° outside and the building still has to hold 72°. We've been doing it since 1974, out of Houston, Phoenix, and Sierra Vista.

The Project Manager owns the delivery of one or more active federal mechanical contracts end to end, from award through closeout and warranty, running the job as much from the site as from the office.

Deliver the project on schedule, on budget, and to scope.

• Own one or more active federal mechanical contracts end to end, from award through closeout and warranty.

• Own cost-to-complete on assigned projects and defend the number in variance review.

• Build and maintain project schedules, and know which of the next three constraints actually matters.

• Buy out the job: scope subcontractors and vendors, negotiate, and award.

• Price, negotiate, and defend change orders with the client.

• Run submittals, RFIs, and procurement, directly or through a Project Engineer.

• Own customer billing and subcontractor billing review on assigned projects.

Uphold contract, quality, and compliance standards.

• Own project safety performance alongside the field team.

• Manage subcontractor performance, including the conversation nobody wants to have — early rather than late.

• Run project meetings with BEI staff, subcontractors, and the client, and leave with decisions rather than notes.

• Coordinate with the Superintendent so the field and office are working off the same plan.

• Keep the project record complete and current — federal contracts run on documentation, and claims are won on it.

Build client and industry relationships.

• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and other industry professionals.

• Two years in, you'll be trusted with larger scope and more of it, and you'll be the person a Project Engineer learns the job from.

Qualifications.

• Two to five years managing commercial mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing construction projects.

• Federal or public sector experience a strong plus; otherwise, a willingness to learn how differently those jobs run.

• Fluency with contract drawings and specifications, and the judgment to know when the spec and the field disagree.

• Command of project cost: budgets, forecasts, change orders, and billings.

• Additional knowledge in plumbing, building automation, or other MEP trades a plus.

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with tact, courtesy, and ethics.

• Writes clearly enough that a subcontractor can act on an RFI without a follow-up call.

• Engineering or construction management degree preferred; equivalent field experience considered.

• Ability to travel 50–60 percent; valid driver's license; ability to obtain a federal facility access determination.

• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Oracle NetSuite ERP, Salesforce CRM, Bluebeam Revu, Procore, and similar tools.

Per diem is paid at the federal GSA rate, currently $68/day for meals and incidentals, with lodging provided — roughly $9,500 a year, untaxed, on top of base. Small company, real work, no layers. Since 1974.
