About the Division of Youth Services The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non‑residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, and also contracts with private providers throughout the state. DYS is responsible for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services, and administers juvenile parole services. Job Overview Deliver health care to detained, pre‑trial, and committed youth. Primary care is provided by licensed independent practitioners/Mid Level Providers with responsibility for a continuum of health care from initial assessment through development and maintenance of health care including physical, psychiatric, and dental maintenance. Primary Responsibilities Provide clinical and operational leadership across multiple facilities, ensuring consistent clinical practice standards and effective implementation of medical and care protocols. Supervise completion of health screenings, appraisals, and physical examinations for all youth admitted to the facility. Identify communicable diseases promptly and implement interventions to prevent transmission; report to CDC and State Health Department as required. Mange complex medical, dental, and specialty cases; coordinate specialist referrals and consult with Medical Operations staff. Serve as a liaison between Medical Leads, Medical Operations Coordinator, and Director to align clinical care delivery with operational oversight. Supervise medical clinic staff: observe practice, review EHR documentation for accuracy, ensure medication administration compliance, resolve conflicts, schedule staff, and oversee orientation and training. Collect and report monthly statistical data, review policies, and update medical procedures. Direct quality assurance and clinical compliance initiatives; review medication records, incident reports, pharmacy invoices, and conduct audits. Perform physical exams, order lab and diagnostic tests, interpret results, formulate treatment plans, and document in medical records. Provide health education and training to juveniles and staff; develop guidelines for emergency care. Communicate relevant health information to staff, families, supervisors, and administrators. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing, or current, valid licensure as a Physician Assistant from the Colorado Medical Board. Prescriptive authority – "RXN status" (Per DORA). Colorado residency at time of application and throughout employment. Minimum age 21 years. Background checks: criminal history, health, professional license verification, drug screen, and other required checks. Shift work (24/7 facility; evenings and weekends) and travel to other DYS facilities may be required. Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of experience in adolescent health care. Experience assessing, diagnosing, and treating acute and chronic illnesses. Documentation in an electronic medical record. Relevant state service experience.
