Job Overview

The Child Life Manager provides leadership to the child life team and oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of child life programs, policies, and procedures. This role uses evidence-based practices to guide decisions and advocates for the emotional safety of patients and families in partnership with the multidisciplinary care team. The manager also collaborates with leaders across departments and campuses to support organizational goals and meet the needs of patients and families.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manages daily department operations, ensuring policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed, and utilizing evidence-based practices.
• Establishes performance metrics, collaborates with Child Life Supervisors to improve department outcomes and professional development.
• Selects, trains, and evaluates team members, fostering a worker-friendly environment that promotes growth and culture change.
• Makes decisions on staffing, including hiring, terminations, promotions, and corrective actions, based on feedback from supervisors.
• Develops and communicates departmental strategic plans and annual goals to align with organizational priorities.
• Provides clinical expertise, guiding team members in delivering developmentally appropriate care and monitoring progress.
• Represents the department in senior leadership meetings and fosters collaborative relationships across the organization.
• Serves on committees and leads research, quality improvement projects, and communicates initiatives across the enterprise.
• Leads complex projects, advocating for programs and policies that meet the needs of children and families.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies, explaining them to employees.
• Manages staff and financial resources to meet patient and department needs while staying within budget constraints.
• Resolves escalated, complex operational and patient/family issues, ensuring solutions address underlying problems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Degrees
  • Master of Science
• Area of Study
  • Child Life, Child Development, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or related field
• Experience

  • Minimum Experience Required: Five (5) years of experience in providing child life services in a healthcare setting with one (1) year of experience in a leadership role

• Licenses & Certifications

  • Cert Child Life Specialist

Schedule/Shift

• M-F (Based on dept needs and could include weekend coverage)

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $97,718.13 to $146,577.19
