Richmond VAMC is seeking a qualified and experienced Board Certified Perfusionist to provide full-time clinical perfusion services in support of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical procedures.

The Perfusionist will be responsible for operating and managing the cardiopulmonary bypass system and related extracorporeal circulation equipment during surgical procedures. The selected candidate will work closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and manage cardiopulmonary bypass equipment during cardiac and vascular surgical procedures.
• Monitor and regulate the patient's physiological status during extracorporeal circulation.
• Prepare, operate, and maintain heart-lung machines and other perfusion-related equipment.
• Assist with blood conservation, anticoagulation management, and blood product administration as directed.
• Monitor laboratory values and patient parameters relevant to perfusion procedures.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and perfusion records.
• Ensure the proper setup, testing, cleaning, and maintenance of perfusion equipment.
• Follow all applicable clinical protocols, safety standards, and infection-control procedures.
• Participate in emergency and on-call surgical procedures as required.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain compliance with VA medical center policies and applicable professional standards.

Required Qualifications

• Board Certified Perfusionist credential.
• Current and active certification in cardiovascular perfusion.
• Education and training from an accredited perfusion program.
• Demonstrated experience performing clinical perfusion services.
• Knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and extracorporeal circulation techniques.
• Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment.
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a hospital, medical center, or large healthcare facility.
• Experience supporting complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
• Familiarity with Veterans Affairs healthcare environments and protocols.
• Current BLS and/or ACLS certification, if required by the facility.

Ideal Candidate: A highly skilled, detail-oriented Board Certified Perfusionist with strong clinical experience in cardiopulmonary bypass and cardiovascular surgical support.
