Development Director

Job Description What You'll Do Lead fundraising strategy: build and execute annual campaigns (Giving Tuesday, peer-to-peer, direct mail, online giving) and cultivate major donor relationships alongside our Executive Director Grow philanthropy: manage donor stewardship, appreciation programs, and a full development plan that keeps supporters engaged and giving Own our brand and voice: oversee marketing, social media, website content, storytelling, and public relations Bring in the grants: research, write, and manage grant applications and reporting Run standout events: direct fundraising and community events from sponsorships to logistics to post-event follow-up Build community partnerships: represent HSSLC at networking events and grow corporate sponsorships Lead our Pet-Ed Summer Camp: oversee planning, funding, staffing, and curriculum for our signature youth education program Manage a team: lead the Development Department with regular coaching, goal-setting, and performance support Support the Board: prepare donor updates, campaign materials, and reports for board and committee meetings What You Bring Excellent, nuanced oral and written communication skills, required. This role means personally soliciting sponsorships and cultivating donor relationships, so you need to read a room, tailor your message to each donor or corporate partner, and write with the kind of polish and persuasion that closes gifts. Not just clear writing, but skilled, strategic communication. Several years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or development, with a demonstrated track record in donor stewardship, annual giving, and sponsorship development Proven ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Experience collaborating with executive leadership and a volunteer Board of Directors; supervisory experience preferred Comfort with donor database software (DonorPerfect a plus), CRM reporting, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, email marketing, and social media tools A genuine love for animals and a heart for mission-driven work Flexibility, good time management and a positive attitude Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience) Fluent English required Why You'll Love It Here Be part of a close-knit team doing work that visibly changes lives, for animals and people alike Meaningful variety: no two days look the same, from donor meetings to summer camp planning to media interviews Real influence: this role shapes how our community sees and supports the Humane Society Occasional hands-on time with our shelter animals Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year Benefits: $350/month insurance stipend, 2 weeks PTO, 5 sick days, and 1 personal day.
