Position: FT Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Location: Chicago, IL Job Id: 166 # of Openings: 2 CIMPAR Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Position Summary: CIMPAR is seeking an experienced and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and behavioral health services to adults residing at behavioral health hospitals in Chicago. The PMHNP will collaborate with counseling professionals, social workers, facility staff, the Medical Director, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to deliver coordinated, client-centered psychiatric care. Services will initially be provided in person within behavioral health hospitals. The position will be externally supervised by a psychiatrist through a Collaborative Practice Agreement established upon hire. CIMPAR covers the cost of professional liability insurance and the collaborating physician. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up assessments. Assess, diagnose, and treat adults experiencing psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral health conditions. Prescribe, recommend, adjust, or discontinue medications and treatments in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans. Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication adherence, side effects, and changes in clients’ conditions. Order and review appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing. Provide supportive counseling and education to clients during appointments, as appropriate. Collaborate with counselors, social workers, nursing staff, physicians, guardians, family members, and other members of the care team. Coordinate care with the Medical Director and assist with caseload management and insurance preauthorization requirements. Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome measures, billing entries, reports, and clinical summaries accurately and within required timeframes. Maintain accurate medical records and submit at least 10% of records to the supervising psychiatrist for biweekly review, as required by the Collaborative Practice Agreement. Document all services in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and payer requirements. Respond to calls and emails within 24 hours or sooner when clinically necessary. Provide appropriate clinical guidance in urgent situations and remain accessible to CIMPAR’s crisis clinicians as required. Make independent clinical decisions using established protocols and nationally recognized treatment guidelines. Maintain positive professional relationships with clients, facility staff, collaborating providers, and community partners. Participate in required meetings, training programs, continuing education, supervision, and departmental in-services. Provide clinical education to staff when requested. Identify opportunities to improve clinical quality, client outcomes, and service delivery. Required Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a concentration in psychiatric or mental health nursing. Graduation from an accredited advanced practice nursing program specializing in psychiatry and mental health. Required Experience: At least one to two years of experience providing direct care to individuals receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders. Experience assessing and treating adult populations. Demonstrated experience providing high-quality, client-centered behavioral healthcare. Preferred Experience: Three or more years of experience as a psychiatric provider. Experience working in behavioral health hospitals. Experience providing telehealth or telemedicine services. Experience managing psychotropic medications for medically complex adult or geriatric populations. Required Licenses and Certification: Current certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Current, unrestricted Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license. Current and unrestricted DEA registration valid in Illinois. Registration with the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program. No suspension, exclusion, or debarment from Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, or any other federal healthcare program. Ability to maintain all required licenses, certifications, payer credentials, and professional qualifications with assistance from CIMPAR’s credentialing team. Required Skills and Competencies: Ability to independently evaluate, diagnose, and manage behavioral health conditions. Proficiency in electronic health records and clinical documentation. Strong understanding of client confidentiality and applicable privacy regulations. Excellent clinical judgment, organizational skills, and decision-making ability. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and clinical documents. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, assessments, and treatment documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, guardians, facility staff, regulators, partner agencies, and members of the community. Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary care team. Ability to foster teamwork and provide clinical education or direction to colleagues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard computer applications. Professionalism, courtesy, tact, discretion, and consideration in all interactions. Schedule and Working Conditions: Full-time employment consists of 40 working hours per week. Flexible scheduling, with working hours generally falling between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Pay range: $125,000-$150,000 The PMHNP must consistently meet the minimum required number of direct client-service hours each week. Remaining work hours may be used for documentation, meetings, training, care coordination, and supervision.
