Precision Injection Molding Setup Specialist
Join a high-precision plastics manufacturer in Buffalo Grove, IL as a direct-hire, full-time specialist. You’ll own mold changeovers, machine setups, process tuning, and troubleshooting within an automated, clean, and technology-forward environment producing small, tight-tolerance components.
A day in this roleWhen your night shift begins, you’ll review the schedule, prepare tooling and auxiliaries, and move efficiently from one setup to the next. You’ll bring presses online, validate startup parameters, and run first-article checks. As production ramps, you’ll monitor part quality, adjust process windows, and collaborate with automation and quality teams to keep the line stable and efficient.
What you’ll handle- Execute mold installations, mold/color changeovers, and machine startups
- Dial-in and adjust injection molding processes to maintain tight tolerances
- Interface with robotic take-out systems (5-axis and 6-axis) and auxiliary equipment
- Conduct in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and vision systems
- Diagnose and correct issues such as shorts, flash, splay, color inconsistencies, and dimensional defects
- Perform basic PM on molds and auxiliaries to maximize uptime
- Document production activities in SAP or similar manufacturing systems
- Adhere to safety, cleanroom, and quality procedures at all times
- 2+ years of injection molding and/or mold setup experience
- Hands-on experience with changeovers and process adjustments
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting mindset
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet during 12-hour shifts
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and basic blueprint reading
- Basic math skills and computer literacy
- High school diploma or GED
- Background in medical molding, precision plastics, and/or cleanroom operations
- Exposure to automated take-out robots and in-mold sensors
- Experience with SAP or TMS
- Familiarity with lean/5S practices
- Mechanical troubleshooting
- Plastics: Nylon 6 (PA6) and Nylon 66 (PA66)
- Injection molding and tool/die/mold setup
- Blueprint reading
- Injection molding machines: Arburg, Engel, Sumitomo, Milacron, Nissei, Toyo, Sodick
- Automation: 5-axis and 6-axis take-out robots
- Inspection: calipers, micrometers, gauges, and vision systems
- Direct-hire, full-time role with a stable employer
