Health Care Technician I (S)

The Julian F. Keith Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment Center (JFK ADATC) is currently accepting applications for a Health Care Technician I/Admissions. Responsibilities for the Health Care Technician I/Admissions position include but are not limited to:

• Act as the primary host in welcoming clients to the facility, assist the Nurse in the Admission Process, orient the patients to the unit, meal and medication times, their rights, and their responsibilities.
• Manage the milieu on the unit through close observation and interaction with all patients.
• Work closely with patients and have the ability to use Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) approved de-escalation techniques, to ensure the safety of patients and staff by completing required CPI training.
• Collect lab specimens, assist in emergency procedures under the direction of an RN and maintain equipment supplies and forms. He/she will assist the Medical Staff by sitting in on exams as needed. Maintain dietary supplies for the unit.
• Keep client's rooms free of clutter. Be alert of safety issues and initiate response as indicated.
• Other duties as delegated by and completed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Salary Range: $31,200.00 - $46,348.00

A Sign-On Bonus of $2,000.00 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

This posting is for a 12-hour day shift (6:45 am - 7:15 pm), every other weekend and some holidays and overtime; flexibility required.

*ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

To qualify for the Sign-On Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a pro-rated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a Sign-On Bonus if:

• The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date).
• The employee has previously received a Sign-On Bonus from any State agency.
• DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

All Sign-On Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.

JFK ADATC is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 western most counties in North Carolina. The facility treats individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric diagnoses. JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Condition for Continued Employment

As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
