Maintenance Man I

This is an open application for maintenance positions. If you are selected for a position, you will be required to do a criminal records check and a drug/alcohol test.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma; GED; or Equivalent Work Experience

1. Knowledge of Building Maintenance and Construction
2. Possess Valid Drivers License Without High Risk Supplement
3. Provide For Safety of Self and Crew

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) Months

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Job Goal: To fulfill the requirements necessary in the daily operation of the parish school system in an efficient and effective manner as assigned by the Supervisor.

Occupational Characteristics:

Strength: Exert force of 5-100 lbs. occasionally, or 25-50 lbs. frequently, or 10-20 lbs. constantly.

Other Physical Demands: Climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity (under 20 inches), depth perception, accommodation (focal length change).

Environmental Conditions: Exposure to weather, wet and/or humid, atmospheric conditions, moving mechanical parts hazard, electrical shock hazard, high, exposed place hazard. Noise Intensity Level - Loud

Performance Responsibilities:

Performs skilled carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and/or painting duties involved in maintaining school structures, furniture and equipment; does related work as required.

1. Major Duties
1. Performs minor maintenance and repairs to heating and boiler systems such as draining expansion tanks, cleaning burners, checking water levels, sealing pipe joints, etc.
1. Performs minor plumbing tasks such as changing faucet washers, stems, seats, etc., and repairing toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes and guide wires.
2. Performs minor building and grounds maintenance and repairs through the use of such tools and equipment as common hand tools, glass cutters, wrenches, pipe cutters, drain augers, shovels, rakes, lawnmowers, snow blowers, caulking guns, trowels, paintbrushes, etc.
3. Performs other semi-skilled maintenance duties as assigned by maintenance supervisor or superintendent.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

1. Make minor repairs to locks, hinges, door closures, window glass, etc., when either of the aforementioned items create a hazardous, unsafe condition, otherwise report this to the maintenance supervisor or superintendent.
2. Repair and adjust faulty window shades and replace light bulbs, and report fuse, fuse panel, and multi breaker problems, etc.
3. Make repairs to pupils' and teachers' locker, desks, and teachers' desks.
4. Keep all fire extinguishers properly tagged and labeled, periodically check same for validness.
5. Maintain towel racks, soap dispensers, and tissue racks. If any of the above are damaged or lost, replacement shall be made by the maintenance department.
6. Assist maintenance personnel (when time permits) in repairs to heating and plumbing equipment.
7. Make minor repairs to playground equipment.
8. Report any major inadequacies or malfunctioning of physical properties to Maintenance Supervisor/Superintendent.
9. Performs other tasks as may be periodically required by supervisor.
10. Carry a portable radio as required by the immediate supervisor.
