Day to Day

Indeed's Notifications team is seeking exceptional software engineers to join us in building and maintaining CommsHub — Indeed's internal communications platform that delivers hundreds of millions of notifications weekly to job seekers and employers across email, SMS, mobile push, in-app, and WhatsApp channels. Our team owns the full notification pipeline, from campaign orchestration and template management through to last-mile delivery at scale. Together, we are responsible for the reliability, observability, and continuous evolution of mission-critical infrastructure that sits at the heart of Indeed's user experience worldwide.

The scale and complexity of Indeed's communications ecosystem create fascinating technical challenges — from high-throughput Kafka-based pipelines to multi-channel delivery guarantees.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building high-throughput, event-driven notification infrastructure that reliably reaches hundreds of millions of job seekers and employers across multiple channels.

• Driving the modernization of our notification platform, including migrating legacy architectures toward a unified, observable Kafka-based processing pipeline.

• Contributing to CommsHub — our internal self-serve communications platform — by delivering Agentic features that empower product teams to build, launch, and iterate on notification campaigns autonomously and efficiently.

• Utilizing AI coding assistants and other LLM-powered tools to increase delivery velocity and code quality.

• Participating in DFR (Designated First Responder) rotation, including on-call triage, resolving operational issues and cross-org level compliance requests, supporting internal users, and maintaining runbooks and operational documentation to reduce toil and improve team response.

• Working closely with engineering leaders, product managers, UX designer, data scientists, and cross-functional partner teams across various external organizations.

Skills/Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience

• Java/Spring, Distributed systems, Messaging and streaming technologies, Databases, Observability toolings, AI-assisted coding tools, Cloud services/computing

• Proficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, or similar).

• Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance, and resilient systems.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English, with the ability to work effectively across teams.

• Curiosity and a willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.

Salary Range Transparency

Tier 1 - United States of America $100,000 - $150,000 USD per year

Tier 2 - United States of America $111,000 - $167,000 USD per year

Tier 3 - United States of America $122,000 - $184,000 USD per year

Tier 4- United States of America N/A

Tier 5 - United States of America $140,000 - $210,000 USD per year

The salary range for this role reflects the minimum and maximum compensation for the role. Offers are typically made between the range minimum and the range midpoint. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process. The range(s) listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), a Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits. Compensation may also vary based on where a role is performed, as work locations are grouped into geographic pay tiers to reflect cost of labor differences in different geographic markets.
