Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician leads preventive and predictive maintenance programs to keep bakery production equipment running at peak performance. This role oversees high-speed packaging lines, mechanical systems, and robotic arms, ensuring reliable operation and minimal downtime. The technician actively troubleshoots and resolves equipment issues, coordinates with OEMs for specialized maintenance, and monitors key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement in a collaborative, zero-loss-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize reliability and performance of bakery production equipment.
• Oversee maintenance activities on high-speed packaging lines, mechanical systems, and robotic arms to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair on a wide range of industrial equipment, including motors and pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC-related issues, including troubleshooting and repair of control systems used in automated equipment.
• Coordinate with OEMs and external service providers to plan and execute specialized maintenance and repairs.
• Monitor and report on KPIs such as equipment uptime, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
• Use maintenance data and KPIs to identify root causes of equipment issues and recommend improvements to processes and systems.
• Support and promote a collaborative work environment focused on zero loss, continuous improvement, and strong employee involvement.
• Apply and uphold GMP and industrial maintenance standards to ensure equipment reliability and product quality.
• Supervise or guide maintenance activities as needed to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
• Perform routine inspections and scheduled maintenance tasks to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Document maintenance work, repairs, and equipment status in maintenance systems or CMMS/EAM software when applicable.
• Collaborate closely with production and operations teams to plan maintenance around production schedules and minimize disruption.
• Assist in training team members on proper equipment use, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance best practices.
• Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices during troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance.
• At least 3+ years of expertise in electrical, mechanical, and automated systems, particularly in high-speed packaging environments.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with PLC troubleshooting and repair.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Hands-on experience with motors, mechanical drives, and related components.
• Knowledge of pneumatics and pneumatic control systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair PLC-based control systems.
• Experience working as a maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic in an industrial setting.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices for industrial equipment.
• Understanding of GMP standards in an industrial or food production environment.
• Ability to supervise or lead maintenance activities when required.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under time constraints.
• Ability to interpret equipment behavior and performance to diagnose issues quickly and accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with PLC platforms and robotics such as FANUC, KUKA, ABB, or Universal Robots.
• Experience with CMMS (EAM) software to schedule, track, and complete work orders.
• Ability to travel to Canada for additional training when needed.
• Familiarity with high-speed packaging equipment and automated production lines.
• Comfort working with OEMs and external service providers for specialized maintenance.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with operations and maintenance teams.

Work Environment

This position operates in an industrial bakery setting with high-speed packaging lines, mechanical systems, and robotic arms. The role follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM, requiring comfort with extended shifts and production-driven timelines. Work involves hands-on mechanical and electrical tasks around motors, pneumatics, PLCs, and automated equipment, following GMP and safety standards. Employees use maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, and, where applicable, CMMS/EAM software to manage work orders and documentation, while adhering to all facility safety and operational procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Oak Creek, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Performance Bonuses $5,000 sign on bonus paid out monthly 5% performance annual incentive bonus (based on company performance, department performance, and individual goals) 3 weeks of vacation
