Commercial Surety Underwriter

Our client, a well-established and financially stable insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced Commercial Surety Underwriter to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting professional who thrives on relationship management, business development, and portfolio ownership. This role is ideal for someone with an established network of agency relationships who enjoys balancing disciplined underwriting with strategic growth initiatives. You'll have the opportunity to manage an existing book of business while expanding your territory by developing new broker partnerships and identifying profitable opportunities. Responsibilities Underwrite new and renewal Commercial Surety business while maintaining a profitable portfolio. Manage and grow an assigned book of business through strong agency and broker relationships. Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within your territory. Evaluate financial statements, credit profiles, indemnity structures, and overall risk exposure. Determine appropriate pricing, terms, and underwriting structures for new and existing accounts. Travel within your assigned territory to meet with agency partners and strengthen relationships. Collaborate with internal underwriting, claims, legal, and operations teams to provide exceptional service. Monitor portfolio performance and implement strategies to improve profitability and retention. Stay informed on market trends, competitive conditions, and industry developments. Qualifications 5+ years of Commercial Surety underwriting experience. Strong understanding of Commercial Surety products and underwriting principles. Demonstrated experience managing an existing book of business. Proven ability to generate new business and cultivate long-term agency relationships. Experience analyzing financial statements and evaluating commercial credit risk. Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams. Bachelor's degree preferred.
