Energy Weatherization Assistant I-Temporary

Temporary Energy Assistant I Position Purpose: The Energy Assistance Program is hiring up to two (2) Temporary Energy Assistant I positions funded through LIHEAP. These positions are full time with benefits and will last up to six months. This is a hybrid position: successful candidates must work at least 2 to 3 days per week in the office (optionally 5 days). Remote work requires high‑speed internet and a private office space. The successful candidates will manage high volumes of paper and digital applications while protecting personal information, working in a fast‑paced team environment. About You Dynamic individuals with excellent computer skills and ability to provide direct services in person and on the phone to a diverse population, including low‑income, seniors, people with limited English, people with disabilities, and veterans. Able to learn and retain program information quickly, communicate professionally, and handle challenging clients in crisis. Job Duties Assist clients in person and on the telephone in completing forms accurately; review forms for accuracy; request additional information; calculate eligibility and answer eligibility questions. Answer telephone inquiries and route calls to the correct party. Review client files to ensure all documents are signed and completed per contract compliance. Provide information and referral to Community Service Agencies. Enter information into the computer using specialized formats, including application, program or financial data. Receive and route incoming mail; may deliver mail to the Post Office and maintain a mail log. Additional Duties Provide client training in Energy Conservation. Assist client in budget counseling. Schedule phone interviews; assist elderly, handicapped and homebound clients with eligibility. Assist with appointment scheduling. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of experience in Energy/Weatherization programs performing a variety of office work, interviewing and computer use, or an equivalent combination of training, experience or education. Experience with LIHEAP Energy Assistance Program preferred. Must pass job‑related tests. Preferred Qualifications LIHEAP Energy Assistance Program experience preferred. Knowledge and Abilities Computers, data entry, and standard office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Standard office practices and procedures and related office work. Standard human service client protocol including interview techniques, client confidentiality requirements and professional conduct. Ability to Perform mathematical computations. Communicate effectively with a diverse population. Learn and retain a complex series of rules and regulations to determine eligibility and benefits. Explain complex rules, policies and procedures concisely. Read, interpret and enter data accurately and rapidly. Maintain an organized work setting and track forms and applications. Work with minimum supervision in a fast‑paced setting, meeting deadlines while coping with distractions and interruptions. Accurately follow oral and written instructions. Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports. Maintain a professional demeanor while exercising good judgment. Supervision Employees receive direction from a technical Lead Energy & Weatherization Assistant III and are supervised by a Human Services Specialist III or an administrator as assigned. Objectives, priorities, and goals/deadlines are established by the supervisor; employees plan and proceed with successive steps and resolve problems per instructions, policies and accepted practices. Working Conditions The work is performed in the usual office environment with occasional field work when assisting clients.
