What You Will Do This position will be filled at either the Packaging Specialist 1 or Packaging Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (V-5) is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join the V-5 Packaging and Transportation Team. V-5 is Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) premier engineering organization focused on expert assembly of experimental weapon test devices. We integrate a team of highly motivated specialized engineers, technicians, weapon parts custodians and shipping specialists with world-class capabilities in hazardous materials handling, hazardous material shipping, and experimental device assembly to include high-explosives and accountable materials to safely and securely deliver high-quality assemblies meeting customer requirements. V-5's mission is focused on supporting the Weapons Program experimental assembly portfolio (B61, W76, W78, W88, W93, Global Security, etc.) for LANL's Stockpile Stewardship mission, as well as other High Explosive (HE) experimental programs at LANL, LLNL, and others. The successful candidate will be mentored and will assist senior personnel in scheduling, packaging, and transporting classified matter, high explosives, hazardous materials, and test assemblies. After a period of training and observation, the selected candidate will develop professional expertise to become a qualified HE handler, CDL driver with hazmat endorsement, and LANL Authorized Shipper in all hazard classes and divisions. The successful candidate will be expected to qualify for and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
Packaging Specialist 2 $72,800-$115,400
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will assist senior personnel in scheduling, packaging, and transporting classified matter, high explosives, hazardous materials, and test assemblies. After a period of training and observation, the selected candidate will develop professional expertise to become a qualified HE handler, CDL driver with hazmat endorsement, and LANL Authorized Shipper in all hazard classes and divisions. Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. - Developing knowledge or skills working with any or all of the following: Nuclear Material, Explosives, Radiological Material, other Hazardous Material, and/or Classified Matter.
- Developing knowledge or skills with coordination, packaging, transportation, and storage of hazardous items to become an authorized shipper to ensure compliance in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations.
- Developing knowledge to contribute in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, systems, and/or forms related to the transportation of Explosives, other Hazardous Material, and/or Classified Matter.
- Some working knowledge of safety and security compliance, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
- Some experience supporting customers utilizing written and oral communication skills utilizing tact, diplomacy, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Some experience fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q clearance
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with LANL FootPrints, PDMLink, and/or Atlas systems
- High Explosives Handler Qualification
- High Explosives Transporter Qualification
- Working knowledge of P101-8, Explosives Safety, and the controlling document, DOE Standard 1212.2012 (Formerly the DOE Explosives Safety Manual)
- Forklift license
- HMPT Training (Hazardous Material Packaging and/or classified packaging and Transportation)
- Experience in high-hazard operations (HE/rad)
- Commercial Drivers License with Hazmat endorsement
- LANL Authorized Shipper in all hazard classes and divisions
- Rad Worker II certification
- High Explosives Transporter
