ANTENNA MECHANIC HELPER

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Interested applicants must follow the directions in the "How to Apply" section of this flyer to be considered. There may or may not be actual vacancies filled from this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Duties You will serve as an Antenna Mechanic Helper, Telecommunication Department in Cutler, Maine. You will assist on jobs such as repairing antenna panels, retensioning guy wires, repairing grounding system components and sea terminals, and performing maintenance and repairs on VLF bushings and electronic components. You will help repair and maintain the over 50 million dollars VIF antenna network consisting of 26–800 to 980 foot steel towers. You will help in continuous visual inspection, looking for cables out of place, structural damage, and electrical wiring. You will help in inspecting and repairing guy anchor grounds, checking the guy tension, and checking tower profile. You will help replace defective jumpers in the cross arm section, inspect bushings, inspect and repair helix coil, variometers, inspect and repair helix house wood structures, and inspect and repair helix house ground connections. You will change oil in gear boxes, grease hoist spindles, and inspect hoist drums and change gear lubricant. You will perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct‑deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement to a civilian position is subject to 5 USC § 3326. Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service. This is a bargaining unit position. Must obtain and maintain a current annual cardio‑pulmonary‑resuscitation certification. Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination. Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty; failure may result in withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Qualifications To qualify for the position, your resume must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to submit a thorough resume that directly relates to this position. The screen‑out element for this position is: Ability to assist in the repair and maintenance of the VLF antenna network, annual inspection programs, changing oil in gear boxes, grease sheaves on top of towers, etc. Ability to climb up to 980 feet in height while carrying trade tools. Ability to use small hand tools, power‑assist equipment, and motor‑vehicle equipment. Ability to perform work on towers where only spot checks of work accomplishment will be made due to the difficulty of climbing towers. The position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
