Advanced ICU RN | Clinical Nurse II (CN II)

This role is for an experienced Intensive Care Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level, essential to the ICU team. The nurse will provide high-quality, patient-centered care with advanced skills and certifications, working independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the healthcare team to deliver safe, efficient, and equitable care tailored to each patient.
• Perform thorough assessments to identify individual patient needs.
• Create and implement personalized care plans.
• Monitor patient responses to interventions and act promptly as necessary.
• Advocate for patients, maintaining dignity and confidentiality.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by the team and environmental factors influencing patient progress.
• Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
• Promote evidence-based ICU practices.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment following infection control and hospital policies.
• Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques and regulatory standards including The Joint Commission and OSHA guidelines.
• Identify and report safety concerns, actively addressing systemic issues.
• Accurately document care, interventions, patient progress, and incidents in electronic medical records.
• Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
• Engage in continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement projects.
• Serve as a resource and advocate for best ICU practices.
• Assume charge nurse and Rapid Response Team roles as needed.
• Respond decisively and skillfully in critical situations such as cardiac arrest.

Qualifications

Experience

• At least two years as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit is required.
• Alternatively, two years in an inpatient Telemetry, Progressive Care, or equivalent Step-down Critical Care Unit with successful completion of a Critical Care Curriculum during a transitional RN program.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases.

Competencies

• Proficient with advanced critical care equipment and technology.
• Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and critical care pharmacology.
• Skilled in maintaining sterile procedural fields and following protocols.
• Excellent critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-pressure environments.
• Effective communication with ICU teams, patients, and families.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years of ICU experience in lieu of BSN.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the relevant state.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or equivalent certification preferred.

All candidates must pass a physical exam, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment.
