Mental Health Intake Nurse - RN - PRN

Job Summary As a Mental Health Intake Nurse - RN - PRN, your voice to influence patient care is valued and empowered at every turn — whether through open, collaborative relationships with your direct manager or through more formal opportunities such as hospital councils and national nursing initiatives. You will help shape decisions that elevate patient outcomes and the future of nursing. This is a night shift PRN position. The role is provided by Medical City Mental Health and Wellness Center - Frisco. Provide a patient onboarding experience for patients admitting to the in‑patient units, support in‑patient units upon discharge, and assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document all aspects of patient care. Work closely with all healthcare providers to facilitate and coordinate efficient, effective, quality health care. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the appropriate life span, assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs. Provide care needed by pertinent patient group(s) and comply with all policies, procedures, and standards of the unit, department, and institution. Responsibilities Coordinate care with physicians. Actively collaborate with other units and program staff, physicians, and members of other departments to facilitate provision of optimal patient care. Provide patient education while administering medication. Practice safe medication administration, consistent with scanning of patient and medications. Scan all medications and patients using eMar. Follow facility established guidelines for reconciliation of medications on admission, during transfer, and at discharge. Assign and conduct appropriate individual and group interventions within the milieu for behavioral and safe management of patients. Maintain appropriate boundaries. Demonstrate least restrictive interventions appropriately. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment, patient safety and programs. Assess patient’s response to treatment and safety interventions and accurately document interventions and patient’s response. Assist patients and families to understand the diagnosis, prescribed treatment, and safe management of symptoms related to specific mental disorders through health teaching. Document against the interventions within the Recovery Plan, utilizing teaching skills related to psychoeducational and medical interventions and patient safety needs with the patients and families. Assume responsibility for renewing license. Assume responsibility for completing all mandatory educational, health screening, CPR, and CPI requirements within designated time frame and for providing written verification of same for filing. Transcribe orders accurately and scan orders to pharmacy in a timely fashion; provide the new patient with an in‑depth onboarding experience. Provide support to the unit staff with discharging patients. Qualifications Basic Cardiac Life Support obtained within 30 days of employment start date. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention obtained within 30 days of employment start date. Registered Nurse (RN). Associate Degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse Diploma. No travel required.
