Department Information The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers dynamic opportunities for language learning and cultural exploration. With a focus on 13 languages, global cultural studies, and intercultural competence, we equip students with the skills needed for success in a globalized world. Our faculty provide cutting-edge teaching and research to prepare students for professional careers in diverse international contexts. The Department is committed to: Developing students' linguistic and cultural proficiency in second or third languages for professional use. Promoting interdisciplinary scholarship in world language education, cultural studies, literary theory, linguistics, translation studies, and film. Enhancing the University's international presence through faculty expertise in service, community engagement, and interdisciplinary programs. We offer two B.A. programs: Modern Language and Culture and Asian Studies. The Modern Language and Culture major includes tracks in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, with concentrations in Second Language and Culture, Teacher Certification, Applied Business, and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives. The Asian Studies major explores the interactions of Asian cultures, emphasizing both tradition and transformation. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position as Lecturer of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Cultures with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. Responsibilities Teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online mainly lower division Spanish language courses, and dependent on departmental needs, upper-level division language Spanish. Assignments may also include teaching major-level courses in English geared toward all Modern Languages and Cultures majors. Teaching may occur on the Kennesaw or the Marietta campus. Engage in service to the department, college, and/or university, such as co-curricular activities organization, program recruitment, and committee work. Establish a teaching environment where all students can be successful. Prioritize student success, foster an engaging learning environment for all students, and accommodate a broad range of educational goals. The current teaching load is 4/5 for the year. Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines. Required Qualifications A minimum of a Master's degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Spanish or closely related discipline (or foreign language equivalent) is required at the time of hire. OR A minimum of a Master's, or the foreign equivalent, in a non-related discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in Spanish, is required at the time of hire. AND A strong background in proficiency-oriented instruction, demonstrated through relevant experiences, skills, and/or training. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Documented record of experience in teaching Spanish courses in face-to-face and/or hybrid or online environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with current trends in language pedagogy, cultural studies, linguistics, and related technologies. Experience developing courses in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, online, or hybrid courses. Experience with understanding/developing/administering effective language assessments. Experience in organizing co-curricular activities, program recruitment, study abroad, and/or advising student groups.
