SUE Crew Chief

Overview We are seeking a SUE Crew Chief position to join our growing Geospatial/ SUE Division in Chicago, IL . Must be extremely safety conscious and possess a strong work ethic. Candidate must be able to follow company procedures and policy when performing both SUE and survey duties. Day to day operations may require that most of the day be spent performing SUE activities while performing as needed survey activities collecting the SUE field data. The ability to multitask is an important aspect of this position in order to maintain workflow. Responsibilities Supervisory: Acts as a crew leader working with multiple field crews and supervises SUE staff as needed to complete projects safe, on schedule and within directed scope of work by Project managers or Project Engineers/Surveyors Directs SUE tasks in the field Leads tailgate safety meetings and develops site specific Job Hazard Analysis Develops and implements Maintenance of Traffic signage at each site Communicates with clients and utility representatives Coordinates with SUE, Survey and CADD staff for SUE related tasks Performs QA/QC on designated utilities and test holes Leads field investigations Trains lower level SUE technicians on proper designating and test hole techniques Field: Secures equipment and guard against loss and theft Reads and interprets roadway plans, as-builts and utility company markups records Leads field investigations Designates all utilities, including complex telecommunications, cable tv, gas, electric, water, traffic control, and any other utilities encountered in the field Capably uses multi-frequency pipe and cable locators and single frequency induction devices (Metrotech 810, RD5000, Pipehorn) Operates the GPR proficiently Troubleshoots issues with designating equipment/able to make basic repairs (fixing leads) Adheres to safety standards, including proper operation of both electronic and mechanical equipment Maintains truck and electronic equipment on a daily basis, including but not limited to fluid levels, filters and pneumatic/hand tools Skilled at using air lance to expose utilities in varying soil conditions and depths Uses and maintains concrete saw properly Jackhammer usage on varying pavement types Understands proper tamping procedures and can correctly patch asphalt and concrete Drives the designating vehicle and vacuum excavation truck Understands the vac truck operation and can troubleshoot and perform minor repairs Maintains equipment and keeps crew's assigned vehicle clean Fills out the field book legibly Completes field sketches Records information for test holes Records pole data Survey experience a plus Maintains and operates a total station and/or GPS Unit, including the data collector associated with this survey equipment Follows WGI survey procedures for checking into established survey control when field locating SUE evidence. Utilize the standard feature coding descriptions when collecting point and line features associated with SUE designations and test holes Office: Completes QL-D linework Submits One Call tickets Assists with proposal preparation and take-offs Assists Project Manager as needed Downloads and emails data files, photographs, and field notes to the home office for processing each day Effectively communicates with the other parties involved on a project to ensure all SUE markings have been adequately surveyed and accounted for in order to minimize rework Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required 4-5+ years of experience with SUE, utility designating and test holes Valid Driver's license and clean MVR required Full understanding of ASCE's SUE Quality levels Supervisory experience Capable of working independently Must be able to pass DOT physical with the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within 60 days Ability to pass drug screen Routinely perform field surveying tasks, including the setup and use of GPS and other survey equipment. This may involve lifting equipment weighing 50 pounds or more. Occasionally operate tools and instruments such as jackhammers, pogo tampers, and other equipment necessary for field surveying activities. Routinely transport tools and equipment between job sites and assist with tasks such as installing construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and establishing or locating vertical and horizontal control points. Routinely conduct field surveys in diverse environments, including roadways, bridges, and control projects. This may require walking extended distances and working for prolonged periods. Frequently work outdoors for durations exceeding two hours in various weather conditions to complete assigned surveying tasks. This may involve being exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
