Bonuses paid incrementally over three years. The Position This classification describes the journey level of the Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician classification flexibly-staffed series. Incumbents, under general direction, provide mental health clinical services and forensically focused case management services to clients in a jail setting. Responsibilities include mental health evaluations and assessments (including risk of harm to self and others), documenting history and violence tendencies, crisis intervention and stabilization, consultation and implementation of pre-planned use of force with Sheriff’s Deputies, mental status examinations, DSM-V related diagnoses, discharge planning, and other assigned duties. Distinguishing Features This is the journey-level classification within the Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician flexibly staffed class series. Located in the Healthcare Services Agency, within the Adult Forensic Behavioral Health Program, in the County jail. Incumbents report to a Forensic Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Manager. Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician II is distinguished from Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician I by performing journey-level duties with licensure, significant latitude, and independence under minimal supervision. May provide direction and assistance to Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician I and graduate interns. Distinguishable from the next higher class of Forensic Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor due to supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Either I The equivalent of six (6) months of full-time satisfactory experience in the Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician I or Behavioral Health Clinician I classification in the Alameda County classified service. Or II Education: possession of a master’s degree from an accredited school in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, counseling, nursing, or related field. Experience: the equivalent of six (6) months of full-time post-license experience as a behavioral health/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services. License/Certification All incumbents at the Forensic Behavioral Health Clinician II level must possess a valid clinical license from the applicable licensing authority: California Board of Behavioral Sciences, California Board of Psychology, or California Board of Registered Nursing. Some positions require a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license; applicants must possess such license prior to appointment. Special Requirements NI A prior to first day on the job: National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, as required by HIPAA. Medicare enrollment: complete the Medicare Enrollment Process for Physicians and Non-Physician Practitioners; active enrollment is a condition of employment. Failure to maintain active enrollment may result in termination. Background investigation for jail suitability and ability to obtain/maintain security clearance by Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. Shifts may include day, evening, night, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge And Skills Current theories, principles, and best practices for forensic clients with serious behavioral health care symptoms and diagnosis. Familiarity with forensic populations and criminogenic considerations. Psychological diagnostic methods and terminology; cultural and social factors affecting behavior; wellness, recovery, and resiliency-oriented strategies; dual recovery/co-occurring disorder treatment and assessment tools. Understanding of community resources, clinical standards, licensure requirements, and jail-based direct client service delivery. Ability to apply federal, state, and local laws relating to behavioral health care; proficient with office practices and standard computer applications. Abilities Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, community organizations, state hospitals, and criminal justice partners. Organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines; interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures. Communicate clearly in writing and orally; analyze, evaluate, and make sound decisions; prepare clear reports and correspondence.
