Field Technician III

Description SUE Field Technician III - Tampa, FL Halff has an immediate opening for a Utility Locator/Designator located in our Tampa, FL office. The ideal candidate would bring at least 3 years of SUE utility locating and utility designating experience. What you will do: Maintain and operate various electromagnetic and GPR designating equipment, to locate and mark underground utilities within prescribed accuracy limits. Act as lead on 2-man designating team and/or vacuum excavation crew. Read and interpret utility plans/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities. Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches related to locates completed. Operate company vehicle in a safe manner and maintain professional appearance. Perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices. Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours. Communicate and coordinate with supervisors, coworkers, and utility representatives. Implementation of traffic control devices per approved plans and safety protocols. What you will need: Minimum 3 years of SUE experience. Strong knowledge of SUE principles, utility types, and geophysical methods. Proficiency in operating ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic equipment, vacuum excavation trucks, and other relevant subsurface utility detection tools. Familiarity with utility markings, APWA color codes, and industry standards (e.g., ASCE/UESA/CI 38-22). Basic understanding of construction plans, maps, and engineering drawings. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make accurate judgements in complex field environments. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and reliable field data and reports. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Overtime, weekend work, and travel may be needed to meet project deadlines. Surveying knowledge is a plus. Familiarity with CAD software and GIS applications is beneficial. Certification in utility locating or SUE methods (e.g., NULCA, UESI) is a plus.
