Maintenance Planner

Job Overview First Quality is a family‑owned company with more than 35 years of experience in personal care and household products. We are looking for a Maintenance Planner for our First Quality Home Care Products, LLC facility located in Salt Lake City, UT. The planner will improve workforce productivity and quality by eliminating potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time, and labor. Responsibilities Act as the principal contact between the Maintenance department and the plant. Receive all non‑emergency work orders from requesting departments. Review, screen, and confirm the necessity of each work order, resolving any discrepancies. Examine jobs to determine the best method of execution and consult with requesters, supervisors, and engineering as needed. Obtain and interpret blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals, and special procedures; create additional sketches or diagrams when necessary. Identify and order required materials and critical items, ensuring safety is a top priority in planning. Estimate jobs with sequencing steps, required tradespersons, labor hours, and cost (direct labor, materials, total). Maintain backlog files for pending orders with estimated completion dates. Verify availability of parts, materials, and special tools before scheduling. Monitor each department’s preventive maintenance workload, review schedule and labor forecasts daily, and develop a maintenance work schedule for the area supervisor. Attend Operations Planning meetings to participate in the overall plant scheduling of the following week’s work and negotiate downtime windows for maintenance. Finalize schedules ensuring balanced labor hours, providing a full day’s work for each person. Establish and maintain effective communications and partnerships with suppliers. Complete other duties as requested. Qualifications Mechanical or electrical background essential; technical school training or an Industrial Engineering degree preferred. 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience required. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems such as MP2, SAP, or EAM preferred. Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours, materials, and visualize job execution. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent administrative, mathematical, and computer skills with a reasonable training period. Good planning, organizational, and multi‑tasking abilities. Ability to understand and produce clear instructions, read blueprints and shop drawings, and sketch as needed. Knowledge of work order priorities, scheduling, and reliability best practices, including condition monitoring and precision methods. Orientation and commitment to customer service.
