Physician (Primary Care)

Department: Department of Veterans Affairs The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System's Primary Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Primary Care Physician located at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Key Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Acts as a Primary Care Physician/Provider for a panel of patients. Performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits. Evaluates, consults, develops diagnosis, and manages the primary care panel of patients assigned. Enters progress notes in computerized medical records and completes workload documentation in a timely manner. Determines medical assessment and develops treatment plans according to accepted protocols. Evaluates and treats acute and chronic health problems for scheduled and unscheduled patients in the clinic setting. Provides appropriate documentation to minimally include history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, definitive care plan and disposition of the patient. Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient. Coordinates preventive health care needs according to guidelines established by the Department of Veterans Affairs and sound medical practice. Measurement of clinical performance is based upon quality reviews, completion of clinical reminders in CPRS or associated Electronic Health Record, participation in medical center committees, and other methods. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Requirements & Education Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
