Job Summary Under supervision, perform a variety of clerical and reception duties in a medical/psychiatric treatment area in support of professional staff. Serve as a mentor and resource for all Unit Secretaries and act as liaison between Nurse Management and Unit Secretaries. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in medical assisting or a closely related field (preferred). Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Unit Secretary. BLS certification through AHAS. Successful completion of a medical terminology course or an 80% passing score on a medical terminology examination. Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of hospital policies, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control policies. Medical terminology and modern office practices, including filing and operating standard office equipment. Ability to conduct mandatory in‑services, training and orientation. Understand and follow oral and written directions; perform general clerical work and quickly learn specific operations of a medical treatment unit. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and employees; work effectively under stress and in emergency situations; manage emergency or crisis situations with sound judgment. Maintain age‑specific competencies to meet the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs of patients.
