Youth Program Lead

DEPARTMENT: Youth Department POSITION: Youth Program Lead SUPERVISOR: Business Manager/ Corps Officer STATUS: Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Applicant: An internal candidate has already been identified. The Salvation Army Mission Statement The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love for God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this position is to help oversee the youth and volunteers in the Children's Church and Youth Programs and implement the ministry and mission of the Eastside Corps Community Center. They will also help in all aspects of our After School Program and our Summer Day Camp. This position will require a “ministry mindset” and an evangelistic approach to children's and youth ministry. The biggest responsibility of the Youth Program Aide is helping facilitate the youth programs at the Eastside Corps and Community Center (i.e. after school programs, VBS, open gym nights, family nights, etc.).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Maintain clean classrooms (chairs, supplies, boards, floors and trash) Complete and submit youth reports and statistics reports (On Time) Pick up youth for Afterschool Children and Youth Programs Fuel and maintain vehicles (which includes cleaning, inside and outside) Plan, organize, and lead Sunday Children's Church (morning Sunday School and Worship Service), this includes children and volunteers. Assist as needed with afternoon Sunday School. Plan, organize, and lead Youth Programs such as: Troops, Worship Arts Classes, Dinner, and Singing Company. This includes children and volunteers. Plan for, lead, and supervise children and volunteers in AM and PM Sunday School, Children's Church, Youth Programs, Afterschool Program, Winter/Spring Break Camp and Summer Day Camp Maintain registration and payment accounts for afterschool programs, Summer Day Camp, and Winter and Spring Day Camps Responsible for Camp Arnold online registration and coordinating transportation, pickup and drop-off and follow-up to seekers Assist as needed in the implementation of other youth programs such as: Teen Nights, vacation Bible school, Day Camp, Bible studies, assemblies/ chapel meetings, etc. Maintain department logs including, but not limited to, attendance sheet, document volunteer hours, fill out incident reports, and notice of concerns Create physical files as needed Provide administrative support to department heads as needed Child Safety Duties Implement Child Safety procedures as outlined by The Salvation Army policies. Maintain accurate, organized, complete and functional files related to Protecting the Mission and Policies for Work with Minors. Plan, prepare for, and conduct training and informational sessions and workshops related to Protecting the Mission and Policies for work with minors. Ensure compliance to policies. Disseminate and provide updates of Mission and Policy material at the Eastside Corps Community Center. Lead or assist, as necessary, with following through with concerns and complaints. This person must have a passion for the programs of The Salvation Army and be comfortable sharing the tenants and doctrines of The Salvation Army. This person must be able to promote team ministry and be willing to work with others to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Eastside Salvation Army ministry. This person must be able to demonstrate values associated with The Salvation Army in their approach to work and service within The Salvation Army. Prepare and distribute snacks and meals as needed for programs Keep classrooms, gym, chapel, and all areas occupied by the Youth Program clean and orderly and eliminate any safety hazards Perform all safety duties as required by The Salvation Army's safety policies. Assist with Christmas programs and other seasonal programs, community programs, projects, and office tasks when necessary or requested by the commanding officer or program supervisor Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to photocopying, emailing, texting, mailing and filing as needed. Create a fun and safe environment for all involved in the Youth Department. Plan and prepare activities, classes, and art projects for Youth Department. Be available as a driver or a “fill-in” driver for Youth Department, kettle routes, and other Salvation Army programs, as needed. Attend staff, Corps Council, and Advisory Council meetings, training, and conferences as recommended and approved by commanding Officer. Conduct assessments as needed to determine whether programs offered are relevant. Provide input to the budget process for the youth department and keep expenditures within approved budgetary line items. Follow all fiscal and financial policies and procedures implemented by the Salvation Army Eastside Corps Community Center. Implement all safety policies and regulations as required by The Salvation Army Injury and Incident Prevention Program (IIPP), including reporting of any injury, illness or near-misses by employees. Have a close working relationship with other Corps personnel. Regular attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Enter and update work schedule into assigned Corps systems, if needed. Perform any other work-related duties and assignments as requested by Supervisor/ Corps Officer.

GENERAL NOTES AND PRECAUTIONS

If an item is too heavy, get help When working with volunteers, clear communication and supervision is required All vandalism or building damage must be reported to the Business Manager/ Commanding Officer Assist with critical fundraising efforts, including but not limited to Christmas engagements, such as Christmas Kettle pick-ups, Toy Pickups Any injuries must be reported immediately to Supervisor/ Commanding Officer

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma or GED is required. College degree or experience preferred Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: youth work, programming, teen development, etc. A valid First Aid CPR/ AED certificate Show an ability to deal with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of youth in programs Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse client population. Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving test, including being at least 21 years of age to be able to drive. Ability to pass background and MVR checks Ability to work with limited or no supervision Ability to work with other staff members and volunteers a must Ability to speak English fluently to communicate with volunteers and children in programs Ability to remain calm in stressful situations Ability to multi-task and set priorities Have a working knowledge of The Salvation Army's mission or willingness to learn it An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, and practices Ability to work within the organization and carry out its policies and procedures Have good people skills and a friendly demeanor Basic computer knowledge: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ability to navigate database applications and use new software programs with basic training. Must have good communication and organizational skills Must be a team-player Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated Capable of maintaining high level of integrity Be a team player It is expected that the person will be able to demonstrate the following characteristics in relation to their assigned duties: creativity, self-motivation, responsibility, accountability, flexibility, good people skills, detail oriented, be a team player and maintain a high level of personal integrity. Ability and willingness to keep information confidential. Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with staff and clients from a variety of racial, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds.

EQUIPMENT USED

Basic computer knowledge including the Microsoft Office Suite and Excel, Word. PowerPoint and ability to navigate database applications and use new software programs with basic training. PC or Laptop Printer Gloves Van/ Truck Various Computer Softwares Copy Machine Calculator Telephone Carts Sports Equipment Miscellaneous office equipment including but not limited to staplers, three-hole punch, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, pallet jacks, boxes, crates, and reach overhead Ability to operate telephone, desktop or laptop computer, and a motor vehicle Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. The Salvation Army will attempt to satisfy requests as long as the accommodation needed is a reasonable and no undue hardship would result. Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events. Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time. Paid Vacation: Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non‑exempt positions. Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.
