As an Exhibits Specialist, you will support the creation, development, and maintenance of all exhibit functions, ensuring a high-quality and engaging visitor experience. Key Responsibilities Respond to and address exhibit maintenance needs during occupied hours and after-hour events. Proactively monitor, test, and repair exhibits during operational hours. Participate in the department’s preventive maintenance plan, scheduled inspections, maintenance, and upgrades. Create, implement, and own formal QC/reporting initiatives. Collaborate with VE and Management on QC reporting, documentation, and exhibit training projects. Assist in the installation, de‑installation, loading, and unloading of traveling exhibits, providing technical support to the installation crew. Actively participate in a visitor‑centric culture to provide an outstanding guest experience. Support Facilities on building/facilities projects, preventive maintenance initiatives and emergency situations. Maintain, upgrade, and fabricate exhibit components using carpentry, electronics, audio/visual, computer, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic skills. Comply with shop safety, organization, inventory control practices and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications Must have a flexible schedule that includes weekends, some evenings, and holidays. Strong audio‑visual skills are a plus. Experience or in‑depth knowledge of woodworking, cabinet making, metal working, finishing, electronics, computer programming, plastics fabrication, plumbing, pneumatics, mechanical systems, theatrical lighting, CAD software, graphic design software, and the print production process. Familiarity with materials such as wood, plastics, metal, and laminates. High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical training preferred. At least one year’s experience in a technical field. Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of interactive exhibit systems. Experience with scissor/platform lifts and forklifts is a plus, but not required; training will be provided. Excellent problem‑solving, judgment, and communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible and capable of multitasking and coordinating multiple projects. Good customer service and interpersonal skills. Previous museum exhibit experience preferred, though not required. Previous customer‑service oriented experience highly preferred. Physical Requirements Use of hands to feel and manipulate tools, materials, and controls; reach with hands and arms. Lift or move up to 60 lbs.; occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl regularly. Climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds; work at heights above 20 ft. Use arm, leg, back muscles for extended periods. Perform heavy physical work and lifting; pushing or pulling objects up to 80 lbs. Walk or stand for extended periods. Operate scissor lifts, pallet trucks, and other material handling equipment.
