This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with data, understanding insurance systems, and contributing to a mission-driven healthcare organization.The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing the revenue cycle from claim submission through payment posting, denial management, appeals, and patient billing. This position works closely with providers, clinical staff, and administration to ensure accurate coding, timely reimbursement, and exceptional patient service. Success in this role requires attention to detail, critical thinking, accountability, and a willingness to continuously learn.Revenue Cycle Management:Submit and monitor insurance claimsReview claims for accuracy and completeness prior to submissionTrack claim status and follow up on unpaid or delayed claimsIdentify, investigate, and resolve claim rejections and denialsPrepare and submit appeals when appropriateMonitor aging reports and prioritize collections activitiesInsurance & Authorizations:Verify insurance benefits and eligibility as neededUnderstand payer-specific billing requirementsAssist with prior authorization tracking and coordinationMaintain current knowledge of Medicare, commercial insurance, and workers' compensation billing requirementsPayment Processing:Post insurance and patient payments accuratelyReconcile daily deposits and payment reportsReview Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs)Identify underpayments and pursue appropriate reimbursementPatient Financial Services:Assist patients with billing questions and account inquiriesExplain balances, deductibles, coinsurance, and payment optionsSupport patient payment plans when appropriateReporting & Quality Assurance:Monitor key billing and collection metricsAssist with revenue cycle reportingIdentify opportunities to improve billing workflows and reimbursement performanceMaintain compliance with HIPAA and payer regulationsPreferred Qualifications:2+ years of medical billing experienceExperience with Medicare and Medicare Advantage plansFamiliarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codingExperience with electronic health record (EHR) systemsStrong understanding of insurance claims processing and denial managementExcellent written and verbal communication skillsHigh attention to detail and organizational skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare softwarePreferred but Not Required:Experience in pain management, orthopedics, physical medicine, or regenerative medicineCoding certification (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW)Experience with prior authorizations and specialty proceduresWhat We Value:Think critically rather than simply follow scriptsTake ownership of problems and work toward solutionsEnjoy learning new systems and technologiesCommunicate professionally and compassionatelyWant to be part of healthcare innovation and reformThrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environmentBenefits:Medical Insurance with Employer ContributionSafe Harbor 401(k) with Company MatchDental, Vision, Life, Accident, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance OptionsPaid HolidaysPaid Time OffEmployee Discounts on Services and ProductsPositive, Collaborative Work EnvironmentOpportunities for personal growth and developmentBenefits subject to eligibility requirements and may change over time.About Wellward:At Wellward, we believe healthcare should help people reclaim function, purpose, and quality of life.
