Work Shift: (40 hrs. per week. M-F) Days, Nights, Weekends and on-calls may be required

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist uses ultrasound equipment to view and take images of patients' hearts and circulatory system. The incumbent also schedules and performs exams, takes patient histories, and reports results to physicians for interpretation and diagnosis. Further, the Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist looks for abnormalities in blood flow sounds, heart rhythm, oxygen saturation, and the appearance of the heart.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Detects defects or irregularities using ultrasound equipment

2. Positions patients and explains procedure.

3. Performs quality control functions

4. Evaluates ultrasounds for diagnostic quality.

5. Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques

6. Develops ultrasound film and matches it with the appropriate paperwork for interpretation

7. Assists in maintenance and compilation of statistical data

8. Provides orientation to new cardiac ultrasound technologists.

9. Provides education and training to cardiac ultrasound technology students

10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular accredited program.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:

ARDMS credentialing body RDCS license or CCI credentialing body RCS license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands

• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.

• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications

• Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders
