SU2 1st Shift Assembler

This role focuses on assembling subcomponents and finished products on a fast-paced production line, using hand and power tools to build units. You will work closely with a team member to fulfill daily product orders, follow assembly drawings and schematics, and operate an overhead crane to move larger units within a clean, well-organized manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble subcomponents and finished products according to assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics, ensuring correct parts, quantities, and placement.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to fit and assemble metal products to precise specifications.
  • Operate an overhead crane to safely move and position larger units and materials on the manufacturing floor.
  • Follow established material processing procedures within the facility, applying basic product and process knowledge to each build.
  • Work in a fast-paced production and assembly environment to meet daily output and quality targets.
  • Collaborate with one team member to complete product orders each day, coordinating tasks and workflow effectively.
  • Lift and maneuver components weighing 5060+ pounds, including lifting 40+ pounds independently, to fit products together.
  • Perform physical tasks such as climbing, standing, walking, and extending arms for extended periods of time while operating equipment and tools.
  • Regularly walk, sit, and reach to access materials, tools, and workstations throughout the shift.
  • Use tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accurate assembly.
  • Adhere to facility organization standards, including labeled sections for materials and production, and support 5S practices.
  • Follow all safety guidelines when using hand tools, power tools, overhead cranes, and other equipment.
  • Participate in training programs and apply learned skills to improve assembly quality and efficiency.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to assemble mechanical products using hand tools and power tools in a production environment.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools such as drills, wrenches, and other common assembly equipment.
  • Capability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to determine parts, quantities, and proper placement.
  • Proficiency using tape measures and basic measuring tools to confirm dimensions and alignment.
  • Ability to operate an overhead crane or willingness to learn overhead crane operation with training.
  • Mechanical aptitude for fitting metal components together and troubleshooting basic assembly issues.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more, including lifting 40 pounds or more independently, on a regular basis.
  • Comfort with frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and extending arms for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, and reach for extended periods while performing assembly tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to use hands extensively to operate hand tools, power tools, and related equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED required by the time of permanent conversion, with support available to complete a GED if needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with fast-paced manufacturing or production assembly environments.
  • Experience assembling heat exchangers or similar mechanical units is a plus.
  • Comfort working on a large, organized manufacturing floor with clearly labeled sections for materials and production.
  • Attention to detail when reviewing assembly drawings and schematics to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Willingness to participate in a structured training program to build skills and knowledge.
  • Interest in continuing education opportunities, such as company-supported GED programs.

Work Environment

The role primarily operates on first shift, running Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with overtime opportunities that may start at 5:00 AM and extend the day to 4:30 PM. A second shift also runs Monday through Friday from 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM, with possible overtime on Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The work takes place on a clean, organized, and large manufacturing floor where all sections are clearly labeled based on materials and production, supporting efficient workflow and strong 5S practices. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
