Job Description:

Job Summary: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility of patients for a designated time frame and to provide care, specifically in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring an invasive cardiology or invasive radiology study. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide a valuable service to the patient and the team.

Essential Functions:

• Administers contrast material (when applicable), according to physician's request, by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
• All functions and duties will be under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
• Assists with inventory/supplies.
• Checks for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
• Compiles pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab, pathology, etc.
• Assists in instruction of new staff as necessary.
• Documents accurately and completely.
• Explains procedure to patient and provides for patient care- including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
• Accurately informs procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation and sponge/sharp counts.
• Performs on call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet department needs.
• Performs all essential functions of the Radiologic Technologist.

Department-Specific Duties:

• Administers and withholds contrast and treatment as appropriate.
• Assess patients for allergies.
• Peripheral Vascular work.
• Venous Central Lines.
• Tube Changes.
• Embolization Work (Venous and Arterial).
• Venous Thrombectomy Work.
• Takes late shift duties as assigned to meet department needs.
• Experience with Interventional Neurology is preferred.
• Dialysis work (AV Fistulas, Tunneled Dialysis Catheters, Peritoneal Dialysis Catheters).
• Tube access and changes (G-tube, Chole, Neph, Biliary, Abscess, SPC).
• Neuro (is ideal) (Cerebral arterial/venous, Kyphoplasty).

Skills:

Required Skills & Experience:

• Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and complete detailed work accurately.
• Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others.
• Manual dexterity to handle small supplies.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous Radiologic Technology experience in a procedural setting.

Required Education:

• Associate's Degree in Related Field. OR Certificate in Radiologic Technology.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• BLS (American Heart Assoc.).
• ACLS (American Heart Assoc.).
• IEMA Radiography License Illinois.
• Radiography (R)(ARRT).
