Rate: $17 to $19 an hour dependent on experience

Friends of the Dillon Ranger District (FDRD) is looking for a new Youth Programs
Coordinator to join our team. This staff member will facilitate
youth stewardship projects and educational programs in Summit County, Colorado. These programs range from leading environmental education programs to
helping facilitate and plan trail projects for youth participants. In addition, they will
assist FDRD staff on adult stewardship projects throughout the season. Project
work includes trail maintenance, trail construction and realignment, watershed restoration and timber stand health.

Job Description: The Youth Programs Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all
projects meet expectations for worksite safety/risk management as well as a quality
volunteer experience. This staff member will work with the Education and Youth
Programs Manager to outline work and coordinate project logistics for volunteers.
In addition, this staff member will also assist with other season-long programs that
FDRD runs. Our organization only has six employees in the summer, so everyone
works collaboratively together to complete all tasks in the field. It is very important
that this staff member can work effectively with all staff members and volunteers in
order to carry out the FDRD mission of working with the public to keep the White
River National Forest pristine for years to come.

General breakdown of role:
• Youth program planning and instruction (60%)
• Adult trail project and education program logistics (30%)
• FDRD events support and administrative tasks (10%)

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: • A degree from four-year college or university in natural resource management, nonprofit management, environmental studies, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Experience working with youth and youth groups. • Must be comfortable with physically demanding work outdoors. Many times we will be outside, in the elements, for 7 hours a day. • Project management skills • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office • Must be certified in Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder and have current CPR certification by start date. FDRD will cover the fee for training. • Must be able to pass a criminal background check. • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record. • Must have a personal vehicle to get to work rendezvous points. • Must be available for the full term of this position (late May-end of September). • Willingness and desire to follow COVID-19 and other safety protocols. Desired Skills and Abilities: • Experience in trail maintenance and land stewardship projects • Ability to maintain a positive attitude. • Passionate about FDRD’s mission and committed to inspiring that passion in others through effective leadership and communication. • Ability to create an environmental educational program for youth and improve current programming. • Comfortable working in outdoor settings with a diverse group of volunteers ranging in age from 5 to 80+ years old. • Ability to work independently and a self-starter. • Bring a strong passion for the outdoors to the staff. • Experience with other natural resource work including riparian restoration, weed pulls, etc. • Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and roles. • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences ranging from FDRD staff and volunteers to community partners and the general public. • Ability to be flexible and help out all staff members with jobs. • Experience with Instagram & Facebook social media platforms.
