This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 18.
What You Will Be Doing: Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), a Division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is recruiting for an innovative, motivated, and proactive Microcomputer/Network Specialist who will be responsible for providing hands-on system administration support, system maintenance, and operations support of AVTEC’s Windows and Linux servers and related infrastructure. The incumbent will build, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware enhancements, application deployments, and infrastructure upgrades, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes. Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure to keep up with the IT business needs of AVTEC. Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures over multiple operating systems. Assists with desktop and help desk support efforts as needed.

Who We Are Looking For: We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
- Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
- Technical Documentation: Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.
- Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.

- Systems Integration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
- Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
Equivalent to those typically gained by: Training and experience in installing new computers, printers, and other peripheral devices; loading and troubleshooting software and hardware systems, maintaining security software, and configuring network settings for workstations.

CLASSIFICATION STUDY NOTICE This position is currently undergoing review as a part of the IT job class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon the completion of the study.
