QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN III Position Title - Quality Assurance Technician III (2nd Shift)
Department - Quality
Reports To - Lead Quality
Type - Hourly / Non-Exempt Position Overview
Senior-level, hands-on quality role responsible for ensuring machined parts and assemblies meet internal standards, customer specifications, and ISO/industry requirements. Acts as a subject matter expert in inspection, metrology, and root cause analysis while supporting continuous improvement and mentoring junior team members. Key Responsibilities
• Perform advanced dimensional inspections using CMM, optical comparators, height gauges, micrometers, and calipers
• Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications
• Execute First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102 and customer requirements
• Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, and quality documentation
• Support PPAP submissions and customer qualification processes
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA, 8D, NCR, MRB)
• Assist with calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment
• Train and mentor junior QA technicians and production personnel
• Participate in ISO 9001 / AS9100 audits (internal & external)
• Partner with engineering and production to drive process improvements and prevent defects
• Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements Must Haves
• 5-7+ years of quality experience in precision machining or manufacturing
• Strong CMM experience (operation required; programming highly preferred)
• Advanced knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading
• Experience performing FAI (AS9102), PPAP, and inspection planning
• Solid background in root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA, 8D, etc.)
• Experience working within ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 environments
• Strong understanding of SPC and quality data analysis
• Hands-on experience with metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
• Ability to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally
• Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills Nice to Have
• CMM programming experience with PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, MCOSMOS, or similar
• Experience with Faro Arm, optical inspection, or surface roughness equipment
• Associate degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or related field
• Experience leading or mentoring other QA technicians
• Background in aerospace or high-spec manufacturing environments
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and quality software tools
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives / cost reduction efforts Work Environment / Physical Requirements
• Shop-floor environment with moderate noise and exposure to machinery
• Exposure to oils, cutting fluids, dust, and fumes
• Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands for inspection tasks
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
• Visual acuity required (close vision, depth perception, focus adjustment)
• Ability to communicate effectively in a production environment
