Instructional Systems Designer – Manufacturing

Job Type: Contract

We are seeking an experienced Instructional Systems Designer to develop engaging learning solutions that support manufacturing operations and workforce development. This role will partner with manufacturing leaders, subject matter experts, and business stakeholders to create training that improves safety, quality, standardized work, launch readiness, productivity, and overall operational performance.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with manufacturing leaders, SMEs, and stakeholders to identify training and performance needs
• Conduct needs analyses and identify performance gaps and appropriate learning solutions
• Design and develop web-based training (WBT), instructor-led training (ILT), VILT, eLearning, and blended learning programs
• Create engaging, practice-based learning activities using scenarios, simulations, and real-world manufacturing situations
• Develop learning objectives, assessments, storyboards, design documents, facilitator guides, scripts, and job aids
• Translate complex technical and manufacturing information into clear, effective learning content
• Apply instructional design methodologies including ADDIE, SAM, rapid prototyping, and scenario-based learning
• Collaborate with SMEs, project managers, program leaders, and manufacturing stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy and alignment
• Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously while meeting timelines and quality expectations
• Support LMS implementation and integration of learning materials and supporting resources
• Evaluate training effectiveness using learner feedback, performance data, and other metrics
• Facilitate working sessions, technical reviews, and stakeholder meetings as needed

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or eLearning
• 2+ years of experience supporting manufacturing, plant operations, manufacturing engineering, operations, quality, safety, or another technical environment
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Experience developing both WBT and ILT, with experience creating blended learning solutions
• Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theory
• Experience with Articulate Storyline and Rise
• Experience with Vyond, video tools, and/or graphic design software
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear and engaging training
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
• Strong stakeholder, consulting, and relationship-building skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing training related to manufacturing processes, safety, quality, troubleshooting, ergonomics, throughput, lean, or continuous improvement
• Experience supporting manufacturing launches or shop-floor capability development
• Knowledge of standardized work or manufacturing operating systems
• Experience with scenario-based, action-based, or branching learning
• Experience with Action Mapping or Design Thinking
• Strong facilitation experience
• Graphic design, visual storytelling, or user-centered design experience
• Experience working in a large, matrixed organization

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate is a true Instructional Designer, not primarily an LMS administrator or classroom instructor. You should have hands-on experience designing learning solutions and be comfortable working directly with technical SMEs and manufacturing stakeholders.
