Patient Service Specialist

Patient Service Specialist Location: Northfield, NJ Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite (40 Hours/Week) No Weekends Are you passionate about helping patients and providing exceptional customer service? We are seeking a Patient Service Specialist to join a busy healthcare clinic in Northfield, NJ. This role is ideal for someone with medical office experience who enjoys working directly with patients, managing administrative responsibilities, and contributing to a positive patient experience. Due to the high patient volume at this location, candidates with prior healthcare, medical office, insurance, or workers' compensation experience are strongly preferred. What You'll Do
- Greet and register patients upon arrival
- Explain visit expectations and assist patients with check-out and follow-up scheduling
- Schedule appointments in person and over the phone
- Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and manage payer approvals
- Collect co-pays and process patient payments accurately
- Prepare and review patient intake paperwork
- Educate patients on financial responsibilities and insurance coverage
- Communicate with attorney offices, insurance carriers, translation services, and internal teams
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Support quality assurance initiatives and compliance standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional office environment
- Previous healthcare, medical office, patient registration, front desk, or patient services experience
- Understanding of insurance verification, authorizations, payers, and patient financial responsibility
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to professionally handle difficult or emotional patient interactions
- Comfortable navigating a desktop computer and Microsoft Office applications
- Experience answering and managing a multi-line phone system
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Workers' compensation experience
- Knowledge of insurance claims and authorization processes
- Medical terminology knowledge
- Prior experience in physical therapy, medical practice, outpatient clinic, or healthcare administration settings
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM
- Basic bookkeeping and accounts receivable knowledge
- Proficiency with office equipment including printers, copiers, and fax machines
- Monday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM
