Microscope Assembly Technician – Pipette Manufacturing

Sorrento Valley - First Shift - $18.50/hr

Job Description

This role focuses on the precise manual manufacturing and assembly of small pipettes using microscopes in a cleanroom environment. You will work with glass components, operate heat-packaging equipment, and help ensure each pipette meets strict quality and accuracy standards. You will also receive cross-training in automated manufacturing processes and rotate through various production stations as you progress.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture and assemble small pipettes using a manual process while working under a microscope for extended periods of time.
• Load glass components into heat-packaging equipment, focus the microscope, and activate the foot pedal to apply heat and shape the pipette tip accurately.
• Measure and inspect pipettes under the microscope to verify dimensions, quality, and accuracy against defined specifications.
• Follow daily output and yield requirements, consistently working toward improved productivity and quality.
• Rotate through multiple manufacturing stations within a linear workflow model, mastering each station before moving on to the next.
• Participate in cross-training within the automated manufacturing department to support broader production needs.
• Adhere strictly to cleanroom protocols, including gowning procedures, handwashing, and contamination-control practices.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.
• Communicate openly with the team, ask questions during training, and seek feedback and pointers when encountering challenges.
• Demonstrate continuous improvement in speed, accuracy, and technique, understanding that ongoing progress is a core expectation.

Essential Skills

• Comfort working under a microscope for extended periods of time.
• Strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills for handling very small components.
• Experience or familiarity with microscope-based inspection or assembly work.
• Ability to perform repetitive production tasks with consistent accuracy and attention to detail.
• Capability to follow detailed work instructions, output targets, and yield requirements.
• Reliability in adhering to cleanroom practices, including gowning, handwashing, and contamination control.
• Willingness to rotate through different manufacturing stations and adapt to a linear workflow model.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to ask questions and seek guidance during training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a cleanroom, production, or inspection environment.
• Experience in assembly, packaging, or inventory-related work.

Work Environment

This position is based in a cleanroom manufacturing environment with approximately 30 people on the manufacturing team. There is one opening on first shift (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) The team follows a linear workflow model where all employees rotate through manufacturing stations, with the first few weeks focused on mastering a single station, which may feel monotonous initially. You will work under microscopes equipped with features designed to reduce eye strain and improve posture, and you will have access to adjustable desks and ergonomic tools. The company encourages short, unstructured 5-minute breaks to stand, stretch, and rest your eyes by looking into the distance. As part of cleanroom operations, you must follow all gowning procedures, wear a hair net, thoroughly wash your hands each time you enter the cleanroom, and avoid excessive makeup, lotions, and perfumes. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required every day.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
