Transportation Manager II Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the direct driver management and supervision of a midsized driver count, ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and best‑in‑class customer service. The manager enforces DOT regulations, handles driver compliance, and coordinates internal and external contacts for accurate planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety to minimize turnover and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and lead special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Oversee personnel management, including training and orientation of drivers and employees, and assist with internal and third‑party customer systems. Conduct fleet operations and profitability analysis, make continuous improvement recommendations, determine and measure key performance indicators, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment market needs. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports. Manage yard activities: check and inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate repairs, and schedule preventive maintenance. Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing, mechanical problems, accessorial pay issues, and other issues throughout the day and on‑call as needed. Maintain the company’s safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and safety policies. Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service, manage exceptions, and adjust driver ETA based on schedules and environmental factors. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED with 2–3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends. Strong professional communication skills, both internal and external. Proven experience establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships. Experience fostering strong customer relationships through commitment delivery, open communication, and continuous improvement. High accuracy in processing information and decision making based on informed judgment. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Willingness to travel to account and customer locations regularly. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities. Experience holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations. Capability to perform under stress in a high‑pressure environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. 1–2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Knowledge of the company’s bonus and incentive plans (optional). Compensation Starting pay is influenced by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. The position may qualify for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volume in line with company plans.
