JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse reports to the Regional Nurse Supervisor and Program Director and will provide direct nursing support to the clients as well as education to the Treatment Team, to the clients, and to families of clients (as appropriate) in many areas, with special attention given to the role of psychotropic medications.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide high-quality nursing services to clients with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and dual-diagnosis individuals including: medication education and support (scheduled, walk-in, individual, groups, crisis intervention, and on-call), consultation with Psychiatrist and physicians regarding clients and medication adjustments, facilitation of blood draw for labs as ordered, assistance with medical treatments/procedures as prescribed.
2. Per authority of license, chart appropriate records, review medicine orders regularly, obtain appropriate physician approval, and coordinate with pharmacy as needed.
3. Observe client's physical condition and behavior, report significant changes to professional staff, and record clinical notes on clients.
4. Responsible for monitoring and observation of clients self-administer medications; (as needed or requested) administration of prescribed injections as ordered by provider; and tracking of prescribed medication and dispensing as appropriate.
5. Visiting clients in their homes, board and care facilities, or in other community placement locations to carry out prescribed treatment plans.
6. Provide services to enhance clients' development self-reliance in daily living and independent living skills.
7. Order supplies and check delivery; stock and maintain inventory.
8. Communicate closely, in a systematic fashion, with agencies and significant others involved in the rehabilitation of consumers.
9. Employees shall follow the reporting requirements for incidents of Child Abuse, Elder Abuse, Adult Abuse, Dependent Adult Abuse, and Tarasoff warnings per California reporting laws.
10. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and prepare reports including documenting services to meet all clinical program and state requirements, including Short-Doyle/Medi-Cal requirements.
11. Provide the Program Director with timely reports on any unusual occurrences that might impact the overall program operation or the health and safety of clients or employees.
12. Complete the minimum required hours of training annually per Turning Point training requirements.
13. Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
14. Will drive on company business and transport clients as needed.
15. Physical presence at the program is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Psychiatric Technician as issued by the State of California.
2. Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Supplemental college course work in behavioral or social sciences, and one year of experience performing duties comparable to a Mental Health Worker or related nursing experience.
3. Knowledge of basic concepts of mental illness and mental health including the physical, emotional and social needs of emotionally disturbed individuals.
4. Knowledge of fundamentals of psychiatric and mental health nursing care.
5. Knowledge of basic medical and psychiatric terminology.
6. Knowledge of principles and techniques involved in the care and treatment of individuals or groups of mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or intellectually disabled patients.
7. Knowledge of contra-indications, side effects and signs of medication complications.
8. Ability to apply routine psychiatric/medical nursing care to clients with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and Dual-Diagnosis individuals
9. Recognize symptoms indicative of adverse reactions.
10. Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
11. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken Spanish and/or Hmong is preferred.
12. Knowledge of record-keeping procedures related to client charts.
13. Ability to operate within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
14. Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms.
15. Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required.
16. Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
17. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR BILINGUAL SKILL

1. Communicate effectively in written and spoken Spanish.
2. Required ability to communicate effectively with monolingual Spanish speaking clients and families for all clinical purposes.
3. Assist with phone calls for Spanish speaking clients.
4. Required to provide language translations for case managers and Physicians on a periodic basis.
5. Minimal adequate competency in the Spanish language as evidenced by successful passage of the TPOCC Spanish Competency Test.
6. Other translation tasks as required.

  • Monolingual: Class 150 ($25.78 - $33.93/hour)
  • Bilingual: Class 155 ($27.10 - $35.66/hour)
