Assistant Director of Innovation and Instructional Technology Starting Date: Immediately Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning & Director of Technology Work Year: 12 months Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $126,000.00 Annually Job Description Franklin Public Schools is seeking an experienced, forward‑thinking innovation and instructional technology leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Innovation and Instructional Technology, who has a demonstrated record of advancing teaching and learning through purposeful digital integration. This position is responsible for building a collaborative, service‑oriented culture centered on responsiveness, continuous improvement, and instructional alignment. Working closely with the Offices of Teaching and Learning, Student Services, and the Technology Department, the position is responsible for leading district‑wide technology systems and building educator capacity in a PreK–12 environment. The incoming Assistant Director of Innovation and Instructional Technology will inherit strong community support and a clear mandate to advance instructional technology with intention, transparency, and impact. Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership, Professional Learning, and Classroom Integration Lead PreK–12 technology integration aligned with district instructional priorities, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Design, differentiate, and implement professional learning opportunities, which may include in‑person, virtual, self‑paced, and credentialing opportunities. Work directly in classrooms as an instructional leader: coaching educators, modeling best practices, and supporting the purposeful integration of technology to enhance learning. Develop and sustain a district‑wide vision for instructional technology that is developmentally appropriate, equitable, and consistently implemented across all schools. Align digital tools and instructional practices with the Portrait of a Graduate and district strategic plan in collaboration with the curriculum directors. Partner with K–12 librarians to develop library spaces as dynamic hubs for inquiry, digital literacy, and innovation. Support and strengthen computer science and IT instruction at all levels, including alignment with the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) Framework. Serve as a leader on artificial intelligence and its implications for teaching, learning, student privacy, and academic integrity. Provide practical, classroom‑centered AI professional development. Supervise and evaluate assigned staff. Identify professional learning needs for technology staff. Digital Learning Systems and Student Data Design, implement, and maintain a centralized digital hub providing staff with clear, organized access to resources, workflows, approved tools, and request systems. Maintain a current, accessible inventory of approved and non‑approved digital tools and communicate availability and purpose to staff. Collaborate with tech staff to manage Student Information System (SIS) integrations with learning management systems and third‑party applications, ensuring seamless district‑wide functionality. Execute and manage Massachusetts student data privacy agreements (SDPAs) with all vendors. Support MCAS administration, ensuring district systems integrate with state assessment platforms and that schools are fully prepared for annual administration. Maintain the district’s public‑facing data dashboard to ensure alignment with strategic plan initiatives, academic growth data, and accountability measures. Maintain up‑to‑date policies to ensure alignment with state and federal requirements. Community and Family Engagement Develop and communicate clear, accessible guidance for families and community members, including topics such as AI, screen time, social media, and digital citizenship. Plan and facilitate community sessions in partnership with town stakeholders on digital well‑being and responsible technology use. Maintain consistent communication with families, administrators, and staff. Present to the School Committee on instructional technology initiatives, policies, and progress as requested by the Superintendent. Identify and pursue federal, state, and local grant opportunities to support instructional technology initiatives. Collaboration, Governance, and Budgeting Collaborate with the Technology Director and Technology Department in the areas of instructional technology purchasing, EdTech procurement, and implementation planning and communication. Oversee the district’s Comprehensive Digital Use Agreement and technology policies, ensuring alignment with state and federal requirements and regular review with key stakeholders. Collaborate with departments to monitor the instructional technology budget and align it with district priorities. Contribute to multi‑year capital planning for technology infrastructure, devices, and systems. Monitor contracts, licenses, and vendor relationships to ensure cost‑effectiveness and instructional value. Qualifications Required Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field. Current Massachusetts DESE Supervisor/Director licensure. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in instructional technology, digital learning leadership, or a closely related field. Previous classroom teaching experience in a PreK–12 setting. Demonstrated experience in instructional coaching and adult professional learning. Proven record of leading large‑scale digital initiatives in a PreK–12 environment. Experience managing Massachusetts student data privacy requirements, including SDPA compliance. Demonstrated knowledge of UDL, MTSS, and the Massachusetts DLCS Standards. Must successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) background check and national fingerprinting screening (CHRI). Preferred Experience in educational leadership or school/district administration. Experience with budget management, multi‑year capital planning, and grant development. Instructional Technology certification or related designation. Familiarity with Aspen, Google Workspace for Education, and comparable district platforms. Experience supporting assistive technology or special education technology integration. Experience presenting to school committees, finance committees, or community stakeholders.
