Grade Foreman

The Roadway Foreman will direct and manage the construction tasks and activities of craft and labor crews to construct roadways using construction plans, ensuring safety, quality, production, and environmental goals are met. They carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. This role directly handles personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality workmanship, and project completion on time and within estimated budget. Responsibilities Maintain NPDES weekly report. Conduct pre-task meetings with crews, ensure safe work practices, enforce safety rules, recommend corrective actions. Monitor soils and oxygen levels in enclosures, give excavation instructions, and handle reinforcement safety for deep trenches. Troubleshoot and problem‑solve throughout the work. Complete daily Foreman Report, track payroll records, ensure accuracy and timeliness. Identify required materials/tools/equipment from drawings; interpret blueprint specs, assist workers, and manage grades. Supervise crew, develop schedules, recommend personnel actions, review timesheets, and orient new employees. Assign tasks, provide instruction, inspect compliance with plans, access work aptitude, coordinate with other foremen. Operate power equipment and perform worker tasks as required. Train employees on equipment use, job performance, cost/quality control, communication, and housekeeping. Receive instructions from higher supervisors, distribute them to crew, interface with engineers and subcontractors. Act as first point of contact when superintendent absent, interface with inspectors, EPA, OSHA, or visitors, stop unsafe work. Participate in developing the Four‑Week Look‑Ahead schedules with Superintendents. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years supervisory experience in grading, finishing slopes, ditches, and/or highway work. Experience with NCDOT projects and NCDOT Level II EC Certification a plus. Experience with Trimble/Topcon GPS. Effective communication skills. Ability to lift construction materials exceeding 50 lbs. Problem‑solving and timely decision‑making. Capability to assess worker performance and workmanship. Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Independent, team‑work, and leadership skills. Valid driver’s license. High‑school diploma or equivalent preferred; combination of education and experience acceptable. What You Need To Know Competitive wages. Benefit package.
