Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: CV Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours Hours per Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM Experience: 2 years License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS Required Must-Have: - Must pass ECG exam on day 2 (pass/fail) Description: This unit consists of 16 beds with a patient ratio of 1:2. Common diagnoses include stroke and acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, brain tumors, cerebral edema, increased intracranial pressure, and hydrocephalus. Patients may present with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, septic shock, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation, asthma exacerbation, acute heart failure, pulmonary edema, acute kidney injury, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute liver failure, and severe electrolyte abnormalities. RNs are required to titrate drips, with common titratable and set rate drips including norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, phenylephrine, and dopamine. There are two clinical techs available for 16 patients. Respiratory therapy equipment available includes mechanical ventilators, high-flow nasal cannulas, and noninvasive ventilation. RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips. Television monitors are provided by a leading brand. There is an expectation for RNs to work every other weekend. Floating is required, with the possibility of floating to other units. RNs are expected to meet holiday requirements of one major and one minor holiday per year. Navy blue scrubs are required. Epic access is needed for job functions.
